A/N -- Greetings my dearest Beatlemaniacs! I know, I know. Another update so soon? Yes, well, writing is better than spring cleaning any day, so updates will come fast and furious now! And sadly, we are on the slide toward the end of the George and Annie saga, so I'm racing to the conclusion. But we aren't at the end yet....lots of drama to come! Enjoy! Love, Lara xo
After George left for the airport and Ava went down for her morning nap, Annie picked up the phone and called Jeremy Robinson at his office in the hospital.
"Dr. Robinson," he answered pleasantly.
"Hi Jeremy. I have a question for you that's been haunting me."
"Hi Annie. What's that?"
"Do you ever get mad? I mean pissing mad? It seems to me that nothing would ruffle your feathers."
He laughed easily and thought for a moment. "Generally, no, but certain things set me off to the stratosphere."
"Please don't tell me it's when your soccer team loses....," Annie teased him.
"Hardly. Certain...injustices...bother me. Animal cruelty. Homelessness. The problems our veterans have. The stigma of mental illness," he stated flatly. "Although my form of 'mad' is mixed with sadness."
"I know what you're saying. And not to change the subject, but why the hell are you still on the market?" Annie asked him seriously.
"I must be very picky," he laughed at himself. "I just haven't wanted to.....or been able to......let my wife go, I suppose."
"Can I ask you what happened?"
"Cancer. It happened very quickly and it was devastating," Jeremy admitted. "But aren't we supposed to be talking about you?"
"Friends share, Jeremy. And we must be doing this as friends because I haven't received a bill for services from you....ever," Annie said gently.
"My billing department must be on vacation..."
"Bullshit. So what are we doing here? Sharing as friends or acting as doctor and patient?"
"I suppose a bit of both. I like you very much, Annie. I admire your husband. You have a good, strong marriage and that's a difficult thing to have in this day and age. I've learned quite a bit from you," Jeremy told her honestly.
"Well, I've certainly learned a lot from you. I really don't know what I would have done without you. You know George is a bit....reserved on the subject of psychologists. It's easy to see why. His upbringing, his British reserve, and he has a touch of the 'old-fashioned' in him. But he is extremely open and uninhibited with people he has come to trust....which are very few. Being a Beatle at such a young age skewed his thinking a bit and initially he is very wary of people."
"And you are just the opposite? All in, all the time until proven wrong?"
Annie laughed. "I guess so."
"So how did that work out with Steven?"
Annie seemed taken back for a moment. "Well, uh, to be honest, I'm not really sure."
"Why don't you think about that for awhile and maybe we can talk about it a bit later. It might help you to get an understanding of what your role was in your relationship with Steven."
"Well....I supposed I wanted to 'fix' him. I thought I could bring him happiness."
"And when you couldn't and didn't?"
"I don't know, Jeremy....," Annie stammered. "I really don't know."
"It's okay, Annie. That's why we're talking. We'll figure it out together," he answered gently. "It's going to be okay."
