Chapter 3 - Peyton still
Did you think you would get rid of me? Did you think Percy would narrate? Um... no. This is my story Percy just gets to narrate sometimes.
So, when we went inside after Percy's last day of school Gabe was playing poker as usual.
"Hey, you brats! You got some money?" he asked.
"Follow my lead," I whispered to Percy.
"No, I am sorry but we don't have any money." I told gabe.
"You took a taxi probably paid with a 20 you should still have 5 or six dollars left." Gabe told me.
"We actually didn't take a taxi, me and Percy walked home." I told Gabe. I was so about to add an insult to that but I held my mouth clamped.
"Yeah, I gotta say Peyton. You make it look easy." Percy wheezed. Pretending he walked here with me.
"It is after 5 years." I told him.
"Fine, you little brats go to your room and stay there!" Gabe said, buying the trick.
Sadly, me and Percy shared a room when we were seven and still have too. I sleep on the floor. When Percy protested I told him that the floor felt like my bunk back at school.
"Hey, Peyton. How did you learn to lie like that?" Percy asked me.
"A hippy taught me." I told him
"Who?"
"At school they let us wander the streets for about an hour every day. When I was seven I came across a man playing his guitar and singing songs. I came and listened to his songs every day. After about a week the man walked up to me. He said, 'you know I have a tip jar?' I told him I didn't have any money because I was saving it to get a gift for my brother when I could come home. He replied, 'here is a tip, playing music on the streets is a good way to make money'. The man taught me how to play guitar and we sang together for five years out on the streets for just an hour every day. Some people liked us so much that they came twice a week. I got half the money and the man got half the money." I told percy.
"Sing something for me!" Percy said.
"I threw a wish in the well
Don't ask me, I'll never tell
I looked to you as it fell
And now you're in my way
I trade my soul for a wish
Pennies and dimes for a kiss
I wasn't looking for this
But now you're in my way
Your stare was holding
Ripped jeans, skin was showin'
Hot night, wind was blowin'
Where you think you're going, baby?
Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy
But here's my number, so call me maybe
It's hard to look right at you, baby
But here's my number, so call me maybe
Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy
But here's my number, so call me maybe
And all the other boys try to chase me
But here's my number, so call me maybe
You took your time with the call
I took no time with the fall
You gave me nothing at all
