Chapter 29 - The Poker player
Mom took Alexandra, Travis, and Connor to the kitchen to get something to eat while I worked on patching myself up. Essentially, I wrapped bandages around my side because there was a little blood and washed my face in the sink.
The longer I stood there washing my face the less my side hurt. Then I remembered that water is supposed to heal kids of Poseidon/Neptune/ what is up with my life. I took the already wrapped bandage, messed it up, took it off, soaked it in water, and reapplied it as best I could.
I didn't care that they now looked more like rags than bandages. My shirt was dry so no one could tell that I had on wet bandages as I made my way to the kitchen.
"So, Mom, what are you gonna do with your Gabe statue?" I asked as I slid into one of the seats at the table.
"I'm thinking I will sell it. Have you heard of that place, what was it called, SOHO?"
"I live in california. So no, I have not heard of SOHO. What is it?" I asked. Percy loves Manhattan. He would probably scoff and then give me like 20 facts about it, "Fun fact: It is an art gallery" Yes, I can hear him now.
"It is a neighborhood with art galleries, restaurants, and parks."
"So, like the Smithsonian but in New York?" I asked.
"Kinda, no not really?" Mom said.
"Well, me and Percy don't need protection from monsters anymore so I am happy to say that you can move on with your life and get a new apartment that doesn't smell like smoke, beer, and vomit!" I announced.
"Dude, what is up with your life?" Connor asked.
"Death!" I said phantom miming being dead.
Alexandra moved to catch me but I caught myself before hitting the floor.
Right before we left me and Mom stood in front of the gabe statue.
"How about Mr. Ugliano?" I suggested.
"Too obvious,""What about The drunk dude?"
"Nuh uh,"
"How about the poker player?" I tried again.
"I actually like that! Well, good luck Peyton. Try to come back alive!" Mom waved me out.
When I met the others in the parking lot Connor asked, "What did you settle on?"
"The poker player."
"Let's hope that guy goes to the fields of punishment." Alexandra said, disgusted.
"I might have to call my uncle about that situation." I was sad, contemplating how I would ask that question. Then I remembered that I forgot something.
"Y'all, I forgot to grab something just wait right here and I will be back in 5" I ran into the apartment and opened the recipe box.
Mom won't care about me taking it because she has multiple copies of each recipe. I ran back out the door, closed it, and ran up to my friends.
"So, you guys want to walk to Long island or take a taxi?" I asked.
"Taxi!"
"PLEASE GIVE ME A TAXI!"
"Girl, are you kidding?"
"Was that a walk or a taxi because I didn't hear you," I teased.
"Taxi!" they said in unison.
"Fine!" I did my best taxi cab whistle, it made everyone wince, and waved my arm up, down and around to get a taxi.
Camp here we come.
