I stood with my mom as they announced my basket. I always took part in town events, which included making a basket with lunch in it and having to have lunch with the person who buys it.

"Okay this basket was made by Y/n Gilmore, we'll start the bid at 5$." Mayor Doose said.

"What? Five dollars? That's a crime." I said as I crossed my arms.

"It sure is." My mother said.

All of a sudden someone bid on it. It was Dean. Dean and I had broken up a few days ago, he broke up with me because I didn't say I love you. And I stayed away from him because I thought that was insane. But since we were no longer together he had been trying to win me back. I guess this bid was going to be one of his ploys to do so.

"$10." He said.

"I'm gonna puke." I said to my mother.

"He's still trying." My mom said.

"We've got $10 anyone want to go for $11?" Doose asked.

"$20." A familiar voice said.

It was Jess. He was well aware of my problem with Dean. And I also think he had a crush on me. Which is why anytime Dean was causing a problem, he would immediately step in. I looked over to Jess who was in the back. He smiled at me and I smiled back.

"Uh, ok. $20. Does anyone want to do—." Mayor Doose started.

"$30." Dean said.

"I am going to lose it. Right here, right now." I said to my mother.

"Maybe it'll end the bid and you'll get off free." My mom said.

"$60." Jess said.

"Do you two not understand how bidding works?" Taylor asked.

"$65." Dean said. I could tell that he was pushing it.

"$70." Jess said.

"Have you seen this basket? Are you sure it's worth $70?" Taylor asked.

"Hey, I'm right here." I said out loud.

"$75." Dean said, he was getting red. He definitely did not have the money.

"$80." Jess said.

Silence followed his last bid. Dean didn't have that much money on him. He was completely red from anger.

"Sold to the hoodlum in the back for 80 dollars." Taylor said

Jess walked up to Taylor and paid for the basket. He then walked up to me and put his arm out.

"Shall we go and enjoy lunch basket maker?" He asked me.

"Yes we shall." I said with a smile as we intertwined arms.

Once we were far enough away from the bid, I thanked Jess.

"Thank you so much for that. You have no clue how happy I am." I said to him.

"Well, I couldn't just sit there and let it happen." He said to me with a smile.

"Where are you taking me anyways?" I asked him as we walked.

"To a great place to eat the contents of the basket." Jess said.

After a few minutes we arrived at the dock.

"This is your perfect place to eat?" I asked him.

"What better place to eat? It's on the water and away from everyone else." He said.

We both sat down and he began to take out the food of the basket. I admired the scenery as he did so.

"Wow, I'm glad I paid 80 dollars for this. You packed a lot in here." He said.

"I wanted to be nice to whoever got the basket." I said with a smile.

"My little treat." I said.

"Wow, did you really pack tortellini?" He asked me.

"Yes, I did. Because I also had to remember I was eating too." I said.

I scooted closer the the basket and Jess then grabbed a fork out of the basket. Jess moved the basket then placed the tortellini down in the middle of us.

"So, Luke said you plan on majoring in music." Jess said.

"I am." I said.

"What do you do?" Jess asked me.

"I sing." I said.

"Do you write songs?" Jess asked me.

I nodded my head while I ate. Jess smiled after I answered the question.

"Why?" I asked.

"Just wondering." He said brushing off the whole conversation.

"What kind of music do you listen to?" Jess asked me.

"I gravitate more towards pop." I said.

I then continued to eat causing Jess to stare at me. I looked up to him, he had stopped eating and was just looking at me.

"What!" I asked.

"Aren't you going to ask me what I listen to?" He asked me sarcastically offended.

"I have a feeling that anyone who even knows you for more than a few seconds definitely knows what you listen to." I said to him giggling.

"And what would that be?" He asked me.

"You listen to rock but you have a soft spot for 80's rock." I said to him.

"I listen to more than that." He said.

"What is your guilty pleasure classical?" I asked sarcastically.

"You are so mean." He said as he laughed.

"I'm sorry, I just never pegged you as the type to listen to anything other than rock." I said laughing.

"Tell me, what is it that you listen to other than rock?" I asked him.

"I've heard some Bjork." He said.

"No way." I said.

"Had to give it a try." He said.

"You are just full of surprises." I said with a smile.

"You'll have to sing me one of your songs one time." Jess said as we began to finish up.

"No way." I said.

"What? Why?" He asked.

"I don't even sing them for my mom. There's no way that I would do it for a friend." I said laughing.

"Why?" He asked.

"I don't it's just scary. I've never shown them to anyone. The only person that has seen them is me. I just don't want to be told I'm not good." I said as I shrugged my shoulders.

"That's insane." He said.

"Why?" I asked returning the question to him.

"Because your songs are probably amazing. Anyways you'll never know if you don't show them to someone." He said to me.

"I'll do it eventually." I said with a smile.

"And I hope I'm there when you do. If people don't like your songs then they are crazy." Jess said making me blush.

"You've never even heard them." I said.

"I don't need to." He said.

"Well, I should get home." I said as I packed up the basket.

"I'll walk you." Jess said.

"Are you sure?" I asked him.

"Positive." He said as he stood up.

He held out his and helped me up. He picked up the basket and walked me home. When we got there we stopped at the door.

"Thank you for lunch." He said.

"Thank you for saving me." I said with a smile.

"Anytime." He said with a smile before leaving.
