I slipped through a door and into a hallway to escape the madness of the party. Since my little performance, people had not stopped coming up to me and thanking me. I didn't realize that being the Sun Summoner literally meant people worshipped you.

As I walked through the dark and empty halls, I began to hear footsteps emerge from the other end of the hallway. This caused me to quickly duck into a random room in the hallway. Once the footsteps ran by I began to approach the door.

I was stopped when a hand covered my mouth.

For a second I was confused, I had not seen anyone when I came into the room. Then all of a sudden a blade was inserted into my stomach. I screamed into the hand covering my mouth due to the pain.

The person then dragged me to the back of the room and sat me down on the floor. Once they set me down they walked into my view and knelt down in front of me. I studied him and realized he was a Fjerdan, which caused my eyes to widen.

"Not too long ago you begged my brother to kill you." He said referring to my journey to the Little Palace.

A group of Fjerdans had attacked our set of carriages. One of them got me alone and stood over me with a knife. I begged him to kill me so the Darkling wouldn't be able to rule as a tyrant but he froze.

I don't know what caused him to freeze, whether he finally took a good look in my eyes and began to feel pity or because he knew his fate had been sealed as he heard the Darkling approaching us. Either way, he was killed by General Kirigan.

My eyes began to tear up as I remembered the blood of his brother on my face.

"I'm sorry." I choked out.

"It was not your fault, you have nothing to apologize for. I just hope that my brother is watching me now. Accomplishing the task that he was sent out to do." The man explained to me.

"I believe that he's sitting up in the clouds smiling at your achievement." I said with a bloody smile.

"You're not as bad as they say you are. Why do you hate the darkling so much?" The man asked me.

"I was alive when he created the fold. I watched hundreds of people be consumed by it. He's never cared. He just wants me so he can expand his power." I said.

"The world will never be free if I am alive." I said.

I watched as a guilt washed over the man's face, he looked at me. I watched as he battled himself in his mind, he was deciding whether or not to keep me alive.

"No, you cannot make the same mistake your brother did. Let me die." I said as worth began to take over.

I tried to lean towards him but groaned due to the pain of my wound.

"I have to go." He said as he ran out of the room.

"No!" I said.

I began to crawl on my stomach to the door. When I opened the door up and made my way into the hallway, I looked to my right. There at the end of the hallway stood the darkling talking to Ivan.

I had a decision to make.

Yell for help and doom the world to the rule pf the darkling or sacrifice my life for the world to live free. Sure I begged many people to kill me but if I had to be honest I was terrified of dying.

Most of the time when I begged people to kill me it was because I knew they wouldn't do it. I then made my choice.

However, my head hit the ground with a thump loud enough to catch the attention of Kirigan and Ivan.

"No!" I heard Kirigan yell as he ran down the hall.

I watched Ivan look around for a Heartrender. When Kirigan got to me, he fell to the floor and cradled my body. My eyes were beginning to feel heavy as he held me.

"Please, stay with me." I watched his his eyes began to tear up.

Never had I seen him show his emotions like this before. He had never cried in front of me, most of the time he would barely break a smile at me.

"I've lost too much blood." I said to him.

"No, please." He begged me.

In that moment I felt his worry and his care for me. I never believed he had cared for me, I knew that he wanted to manipulate me in order to get me to do things I would never do on my own.

Once I had told him I had been alive for as long as him however he treated me differently. He was cold but sometimes when I showed I care he would show that he did as well.

Part of me—, part of me just wanted to believe that somewhere inside he wasn't a monster just a boy who had too much power and was shunned from society because of it.

Ivan came over with someone from the party. They kneeled down beside me as Kirigan laid me down on the floor. They then looked to Kirigan, who was staring at them intensely.

"You have to hold her hand." The healer said with a gulp.

"What? Why?" Kirigan asked.

"This is going to be very painful for her." The healer said.

"Because the wound is so deep." The healer explained.

"How painful?" Kirigan asked.

"She may start screaming." The healer said causing Kirigan's face to go pale.

"Uh, ok." Kirigan mumbled.

I could feel blood pouring out of my mouth as I looked up at him. He looked down at me as he grabbed my hand.

"It's ok, you're going to be ok." He said to me. But I think that was more for him.

The healer put their hands over me and closed their eyes. The small prickly feeling I had felt when smaller wounds were healed was nothing compared to the pain I felt in that moment. I felt a searing pain travel throughout my body.

I gasped not wanting to scream and alert the large party happening on the other side of the hallway. I grasped Kirigan's hand. I tried to squirm around but the healer had Ivan hold me down so I couldn't.

I never began to scream but I did cry. My sobs could be heard throughout the hall but I assumed those attending the party could not hear me.

Once the healer had finished, they left along with Ivan who was sent away by Kirigan. When they had exited the hallway, Kirigan pulled me to his chest and hugged me tightly as I sobbed into his chest.

"It's okay." He muttered over and over again in a whisper.

After a few moments, he picked me up and walked me to my room. Instead of staying in the room with me he quickly began to walk to the door after laying me down in my bed.

He seemed to be on edge.

"Y/n, who attacked you?" Kirigan asked me.

"A Fjerdan soldier." I said.

He then left without another word.
