I walked down the streets of New York as I pulled my coat together tightly. I was a cold day, but for some reason I felt like I couldn't wait any longer. I had waited long enough. I pulled the letter out of my pocket that I had brought along with me.

Dear Miss Y/L/N,

I know you have refused me in the past, but your powers are extraordinary. I heard of your mother's death and I am terribly sorry for your loss. But this is your chance to become someone truly special, someone who can help people.

If you change your mind, come to the Umbrella Academy in New York City.

Sincerely,

Reginald Hargreeves.

I let out a shaky breath as I stopped and turned to my left. I felt a single tear roll down my cheek. Reginald Hargreeves had begged my mother for me. My mother refused, believing he would subject me to a life not worth living and my mother had desperately wanted a child.

She always told me I was her little miracle.

I shoved the letter into my pocket and wiped the tear from my face. As I raised my hand to knock on the door, it swung open. A child stood in front of me. He was in sort of school looking uniform with an umbrella with it.

I looked at him confused.

"Hi, I'm here to see Reginald Hargreeves." I said to him.

"He's dead, but that doesn't matter. Come inside, follow me." The boy said sharply. I stood there confused as the boy walked further into the house.

"Come one, we don't have all day." He said without stopping. I quickly came inside and closed the door. I followed him into a large room that looked like the living room. To the right, was where the living room ended and the kitchen started. There were five other people in the house, all doing different things.

They all collectively looked at me as I entered the room.

"Who's this?" One of the people asked. He had been flipping a knife while sitting on the couch. He was dressed in all black, he had short hair and a scar on the side of his head.

"Our key to stopping the apocalypse, hopefully." The boy said.

"The apocalypse?" I asked confused.

"Well, this is a beautiful key to stopping this apocalypse you have been talking about Five." One the others said as he got up and walked towards me. His hair was slightly longer and more messy than the other man who had spoke earlier. He seemed to have black eyeliner on. He wore a leather coat with fur accents and leather pants.

"Klaus." Everyone said in unison, seemingly annoyed.

"Ok, what powers do you have?" The boy asked me, causing anyone who wasn't paying attention to snap their heads my way.

"Powers? Why didn't you start with that?" The one semi-familiar face in the room asked. Her name was Allison Hargreeves. The most I knew about her is that she was a pretty famous actress.

"I can control light and shadows." I said.

"That's it?" The boy asked me

"Well, because I can control the dark I can also you black magic which basically gives me any power I want." I said with a shrug.

"Now, that is what I'm talking about." The boy said.

"I'm sorry, but how am I supposed to stop the apocalypse?" I asked.

"I'm still trying to work that out. For now, just stay here."

"And do what?" I asked.

The boy then looked around the room to all his siblings. His eyes then landed back on me.

"Just wait for me to get back, I need to run an errand." He said to me. He then walked out of the room and it was silent as we listened to the front door open then close. I turned towards everyone who was staring at me.

"So, are you going to show us your powers?" The one named Klaus asked me.

"Klaus come on, she just got here." The larger one said. He was tall and muscular. He wore a tight shirt with a coat over top, along with gloves on his hands. Every part of his body was covered up.

"Luther, Five literally just told us she is the key to stopping the apocalypse aren't you a little curious as to what her powers look like?" Klaus asked.

"I would like to see them." The one who had been flipping a knife said.

"Thank you Diego." Klaus said.

"You're going to ask her to show off her powers and you don't even know her name?" Allison said to Klaus and the man flipping a knife.

"Y/n." I said.

"Well, I am obviously Klaus. The muscles is Luther, the guy who has been flipping the same knife since you got here is Diego, Allison is the one who just asked for your name, and that over there is Viktor." Klaus said introducing me to everyone in the room.

"So, are you going to show us your powers?" Diego asked me.

I held out my hand as a shadowy hand came up out of the ground and grabbed the knife Diego had been throwing midair and brought it into my own hand. Everyone looked at me shocked as i held the knife and spun it.

I then threw his knife back at him and he caught it.

"Ok, you said you could control the light too. What does that look like?" Diego asked me.

I looked up to the chandelier above us, I focused on the lights causing them to start to flicker at first then slowly start glowing brighter and brighter. I stopped before I caused one of the bulbs to burst.

"Cool." Diego said with a smile.

"My black magic also gives me a lot of basic abilities. Like I can see the fact that all of you have powers." I said looking around the room.

"I don't" Viktor said causing me to look at him confused.

"Yeah, you do." I said causing him to return a confused look towards me.

"How do you know?" Allison asked me.

"Well, everyone that I've meet that has powers has a certain aura around them that tells me what their powers are." I said.

"Like you, I can tell you talk to the dead. I see a spirit next to you." I said to Klaus.

"And you have a heightened precision, you have a sharp aura around you." I said to Diego.

"What about me? What is my power?" Viktor asked me.

"It's hard to see but, it has to do with sound. My guess is you can manipulate sound. It is hard to see it, something is limiting you." I said.

"Do you take any medication?" I asked Viktor. His face went pale.

"I do." He said.

"That must be what's causing this." I said.

"Are you sure? My whole life I don't remember ever having a power." Viktor tried to reason.

"Magic doesn't lie." I said to him.

"After you've been off the medication for 24 hours, we should try and see what happens." I said. Viktor gave a weak smile and nodded.
