quick note if you're reading this as soon as it was update: i changed the dance theme to 50's since my friend pointed out it would be a cooler theme than the 80's (and i like the aesthetic more)

chapter 6: reno likes his new coworker

~reno~

I wasn't surprised when Weisz was hired almost immediately after sending in his resume. He does have a lot of work experience, even in the service industry, so it was a no-brainer to hire him. After all, he's the only person that applied in the few months. It wouldn't make any sense to ignore the one application we got.

My manager assigns me to train Weisz, which I definitely don't mind because it means I can spend more time with him. The only issue is if Weisz and I go to a table together that my dad's friends are sitting at, I guarantee there will be some teasing on their end.

"Does this mean I'll get to learn the recipes?" Weisz asks as we put on our uniform having just checked into our shift. "Because I really want to make those onion rings at home."

"Not yet," I say. "You're getting trained as a server first, and then a cook later. Only if we need you to sub in for anyone."

Weisz sighs. "Then what's the point of working here?"

"Money," I say. "A sense of community. A discount on the food. Free meals during your shift."

"Wait." Weisz finishes tying his red and white striped uniform before he turns to look at me. "That's news to me. I get a free meal during my shift?"

I nod. "If you end up working through a meal, which is majority of the time, then you get a free meal on your break. One drink, one main, and one side." We're both ready to get to work, so I push Weisz out of the staff room and to the front counter. The current worker there sees that we've arrived, so she takes her leave.

It's actually kind of easy to train Weisz for is job. He gets almost everything right on the first try, really proving that it was a good choice to hire him. It's also a lot easier for me to do my job now that I have someone to help me. I don't have to focus on taking orders, giving the orders to the customers, making sure the customers are okay all by myself.

It sucks that not too many people want to work here because of the bad rep and rumours surrounding this place. Nothing bad has even happened here before. Our worst story is probably how a worker passed out only because they were sick and overworking themselves to their own accord.

My dad and his friends, surprisingly, aren't here yet. I mean, they're not here everyday, but they do come a lot when they're going on their little road trips. It's a good place for them to just sit and relax. I know the moment they get here, Joe will point out to Dad that Weisz is the person who has been here with me a few times.

We're currently waiting for the cook to be done with a current order, so Weisz looks around the diner before he says, "Hold on. Is that a jukebox?" He points to the jukebox close to the front door.

"Yeah," I say. "Have you not noticed it before?"

"No, I haven't," Weisz says. "Is it for decoration or does it actually play music?"

Since we still don't have anything to do while waiting for the food to be finished or to wait for a new customer, I grab Weisz's arm and pull him over to the jukebox. I always keep some spare change in my apron pocket so I can choose a song on the jukebox if I want, so I pull out a quarter. I put it in before choosing my favourite song in the jukebox.
