chapter 36: reno has never felt so upset

"Do you think you'll be able to buy the tickets for the school dance at lunch?" Weisz asks. "My second period teacher wants to talk to me about my progress for a bit. I'm worried the tickets are going to sell out."
I furrow my eyebrows. "That fast? They're going on sale for the first time at lunch. I'm sure we'll have time to buy it. But if you want me to, then yeah, I can."
Weisz smiles at me. "Thanks. And thanks for wanting to go with me. I know you don't really like dances."
I shake my head. "It's not that I don't like dances. I just never had anyone to go with. Both with friends or a date. It didn't really help that my first dance was a bit shitty. But only a bit. If we just ignore Neil, it should be better."
"We can always leave the dance whenever, anyway," I say. "I just... I really miss social interactions. Plus, Padma has been telling me about the dance. Since it's the end of the semester, the dance is going all out. Caterer, a DJ, really good decorations."
"Wow. A caterer? You'd think they're planning a prom or something."
Weisz shrugs. "Hey, at least that means there's going to be a lot of food there. Good food, that is."
"That's true."
Lunch rolls around, so I head to where the dance committee is selling tickets for the dance. Despite getting there as soon as I could, the line up to buy tickets is already quite long. I guess it's a good thing Weisz wants to get the tickets as soon as we could. I doubt they'll sell out before lunch ends, but we never know.
It takes a few minutes for me to get to the front of the table and when I do, I say, "Uh, two tickets, please."
"Sorry, we're sold out," one of the girls behind the table says despite me still seeing quite a few tickets on the table.
"Funny," I say. "Can I please have two tickets?"
"Sorry, we're sold out."
I sigh. "I don't have the energy to deal with this." I walk off, heading to Weisz's locker where I told him I'd meet him. I don't even know why they refused to sell tickets to me. I don't know if it's because of all the rumours about me or what but either way, it's very annoying.
Weisz is already at his locker and as soon as he sees me, he notices that I'm annoyed about something. "Is everything okay?"
"Not really," I say. "They refused to sell me tickets. They just kept saying they were sold out even though they clearly still had tickets. You're probably going to have to buy them yourself. After all, you're a lot more loved than I am."
"Don't say that," Weisz says, resting his hand on my arm.
I snort. "No, really. I don't care, anyway. I'm not a people pleaser so... But yeah, you're going to have to go buy the tickets."
I go with Weisz back to the dance committee table, but I keep my distance as Weisz goes to buy the tickets. However, he soon comes back to me without being handed any tickets. He looks confused as he says, "They just kept saying that they're sold out even though they clearly had more tickets."
"That's... Yeah, I have no idea what's going on," I say. "I get not selling tickets to me, but you?"
"Should we talk to the principal about this?" Weisz asks.
