chapter 13: weisz has fallen
~weisz~
"What time does your school dance end tonight?" Dad asks as Celine and I get ready to leave the house to finally head to the dance. Ever since I got home from school earlier, it felt like the day was going by ever so slowly. I just want to go to the dance.
I don't even know why I'm so excited to go. I mean, I do like school dances a lot, but I've never been this excited to go before.
"Two in the morning," Celine lies, trying to push our parents to giving us a later curfew even though she probably knows it's not going to happen. It's not like our parents are strict on giving us an early curfew, but they would rather not have us leave the house past midnight.
Which sucks, because I would like to hang out with Reno at the arcade very late at night one day. I can always sneak out, but that will just reaffirm her suspicions that I'm going through my rebellious teenage phase.
And if they find out it's Reno I snuck out with, it will only cause my family to think he's a negative influence, which he's definitely not.
"Try again," Dad says.
"I don't know," Celine says. "Probably eleven. Maybe twelve."
"Well, try to be home by twelve, then," Dad says. "If you're going to be a few minutes late, just let one of us know."
I put on my leather jacket before I reach for my car keys. I still wish Reno would be the one wearing the leather jacket, but I know he'll still look good in the outfit he chose. Not that I focus on what he looks like. It's just hard to miss that he's an attractive person when I have eyes to see.
Celine takes one look at me before saying, "You look lame."
"Cool," I say. "Too bad I only care about one person's opinion." I don't even mean to say that last part, even though it's true. I just hope that Celine thinks I'm just talking about my own opinion. You know, self-confidence and all that.
Too bad my sister can be extremely perceptive. Some of the time. "What was that?"
"Nothing." Denying that I've said something probably makes it worse, though.
Celine looks at our parents and Grandma. "Did you hear that? Weisz has a crush on someone."
"That is absolutely not true," I say. "All I said is that I care about one person's opinion. That person can be anyone."
"Yes, and it's totally the girl you're crushing on," Celine says, though it kind of annoys me that she just assumes it's a girl. Of course, I can have a crush on a girl, but I don't. Or a boy. I totally don't have a crush on anyone. "I normally see you hanging out with a few people at school. Is it one of those two girls? Tell me which one it is."
"None," I say. "I don't have a crush on anyone. And can you stop saying crush? It makes me feel like I'm still in middle school."
"You should punish your son for lying," Celine says to Mom and Dad.
Right now, I am so incredibly thankful that Celine and I have our own cars, so I'm able to leave for the dance right now. I know Celine is just bugging me like most sisters do, but it's getting a bit overwhelming when I'm trying to figure out my own feelings right now.
So I just say, "Bye," before leaving the house, closing the front door behind me. I get into the driver's seat of my car, sighing heavily. I rub my forehead before I start up my car, driving to the school. I get there shortly after the dance has started.
