chapter 9: weisz likes seeing reno smile

~weisz~

I'm worried that one day at school or work, my car will decide not to start up after the past few days of it sputtering a few times. If I just ignore it, surely whatever problem is causing it will get worse.

I find an auto repair shop in town, thankfully. I don't know if my car can make it to another town or city when I have enough of a struggle starting it. Since I don't have school or work today, I decide that today's the perfect day for me to finally get my car into the shop.

Like I guessed, my car takes a while to start up. I thought it wasn't going to start up at all judging my how many times it sputtered, but thankfully, it did. Eventually. I just hope there is an easy fix to my car because I would rather not get a new one instead.

I drive my car to the auto repair shop, seeing that it's basically empty when I get there. There's only one person there, who I'm assuming is the worker. He's not working on a car right now. He's just on the computer at his desk.

If I'm right, I think he's one of the bikers that come into the diner regularly. He looks familiar, and it's a big hint that there's a motorcycle parked at the outside of the shop.

I pull into the shop, turning off my car. The worker gets up from his desk and walks over to my car, waiting for me to get out. I see he has a name tag on reading Roger. The moment I get out of the car, he says, "Welcome. So what seems to be the problem?"

"My car keeps sputtering before it turns on," I say. "Sometimes, it even takes a long time to actually turn on. It took me, like, five minutes for me to turn it on before I came here. Do you think it's something that can be fixed?"

"Let's see..." Roger walks over to the hood of my car and lift it up. After examining all the parts for a bit, he nods. "It's something that can be fixed. It might take a while, but I should be able to get it done by the end of the day."

       "Awesome, thank you," I say.

As Roger gets started on my car, he has me fill out a form so I can be put into his customer database. Even if this is the only time I come here, he'll need my information to bill me and in case he needs to contact me for any reason.

I don't even know if this will be the only time I come here. If my car were to have some other trouble, this is most likely the place I'll come to. There's no point of going out of town when there's an auto shop close enough for me to go to.

Right as I finish filling out the form, I hear a very familiar voice behind a door say, "Hey, Dad? Did you move the mini-fridge?"

"Yes," Roger replies. "It's beside my desk now. Makes it easier for me to get food and drinks while I'm at my desk."

The door opens and Reno walks out. He notices me right after he closes the door. "Weisz. Hi." Oh. Roger is Reno's dad. Now I see why Reno was upset how I was judging the bikers in the diner. I mean, it made sense before since he works there and should know them, but it probably upset him more since his dad is one of them.

At least he forgave me when I apologized and has proven me again and again how wrong I was to judge anyone.

       I smile at Reno. "Hi."

"Right, you two are coworkers," Roger says. He looks at Reno. "Why don't you take him out somewhere to hang out? I'll probably be a few hours and I'm sure he doesn't want to wait in here the entire time."

"But I always help you in the shop on Saturdays," Reno says.

Roger looks at me. "He doesn't want to hang out with you."

"Dad!" Reno says. "You know that's not what I meant. I was just wondering if you still needed my help or not."

Roger shakes his head. "I can do this on my own. It's a slow day, after all. You should be having fun on weekends instead of working. Go on. I'll give you a call when your friend's car is done."

Reno looks at me. "You want to go hang out somewhere or... something?"

I nod. "Yeah, sure." I'll take any chance I can to hang out with Reno. Besides, it would beat having to wait here for my car to be fixed since I have no way of getting back home or making my way around town.

Reno leads me out of the garage and to his car which is a red, vintage car. He has a choice to put the hood up or down, and it's currently down since we haven't had any rain and we're not expected to get any for a while.

Once we're both in his car, Reno asks, "Anywhere you want to go?"

I think for a bit, but I can't think of any place. "Not really. I'm still new to town so I don't know many places."

"We can just drive around," Reno says as he starts up his car. "I can show you where all criminal activities take place."

I sigh as Reno pulls the car out of the parking lot and starts driving down the road. "Just when I think you're going to let that go, you bring it back."

Reno smiles at me before he looks forward. He turns on the radio, though he has chosen to listen to a CD instead since the car still supports CDs and doesn't rely solely on AUX cords or bluetooth. "By the way, we're going to be listening to a lot of Train."

"That's the band that you played on the jukebox, right?" I ask.

Reno nods. "Yep. And I'm going to make you a fully fledged Train fan by the end of the day."

       "And if I'm not?"

"Then we can never be friends."

I place my hand over my heart. "Wow. After all we've been through."

Reno just smiles at me once again, which causes my heart to skip a few beats. I wasn't lying when I told him that he has a nice smile. He really does. It's one of the brightest and most genuine smiles I have ever seen.

       I like seeing him smile.
