chapter 58: reno is a very smart person

~reno~

Everyone who's going on the school trip gets to skip second period entirely and go to the gymnasium for a meeting. Now that the trip is close to being finalized, we have to go over certain details, like the itinerary, room assignments, rules and expectations.

As soon as I get to the gymnasium, I find Weisz sitting in the front row of the bleachers. He notices me and smiles, so I walk over and sit down beside him. "Hi," he says, still smiling.

"Hi," I say. "You're unusually happy to see me considering I drive you to school every morning."

"What? I can't be happy to see you?" Weisz asks. I just stare at him until he decides to tell me why he's so happy. "Fine. Yes, I'm very happy, but that's because I finally got the okay to go on the school trip. So coming to this meeting is just making me more excited for it. I won't have to feel left out while all my friends go on the trip."

"Well, to be fair, I would have stayed back with you, and I would have made sure you definitely weren't left out, if you know what I mean."

Weisz's cheeks immediately blush a deep shade of red, being immensely embarrassed that I once again decided to elude to something sexual in public. I can't help it at times. Weisz is so adorable when he blushes and gets all flustered. "Don't say that when anyone can be walking by and hear it."

I just smile innocently at him, wanting to say something else to make him even more flustered, but I decide to give him a break. For now. That doesn't mean I won't say it later.

Our friends all shortly show up, sitting near me and Weisz. They begin to talk excitedly about the trip, even more so than they usually do now that they found out that Weisz is allowed on the trip.

Once all the students are in the gymnasium, Mrs. Bassow gets everyone's attention so the meeting can start. The chatter has come to a stop, so Mrs. Bassow says, "I know you're all excited for this trip, but we want this meeting to go smoothly. I don't want any of you to come complaining that you didn't hear something we said. So, to get things started, I'm sure you're all wondering about room assignments. In the past, we had students find a roommate in their homeroom but this year, you're able to choose your roommate even if they're not in your homeroom." Chatter begins happening again, so Mrs. Bassow continues. "There are rules, of course. You must find someone who is the same sex as you. If you don't identify as cisgender, you don't have to go by your assigned sex. Go by your gender identity. If you're non-binary, just find someone you're most comfortable with. I'll let you all do that right now. Come to one of us when you have a roommate."

Once everyone starts finding a partner, Adam looks at Marcel before he gets on one knee. "Marcel, will you do me the honour of being my roommate in Paris?"

Marcel sheds a fake tear and wipes it away. "Yes. A thousand times yes."

"Weirdos," Amelia says before she stands up. "Come on, Jane. Let's go tell the teacher we're roommates." Amelia and Jane walk off to the teachers, followed by Marcel and Adam.

Weisz sighs heavily. "I asked my parents during the meeting if I can bunk with you, and they said no."

       "Why not?" I ask.

Weisz shrugs. "I don't know. They're always forget that I'm in a queer relationship and keep thinking I'm going to accidentally get you pregnant or something. I don't have anyone else to room with."

"Dude. Just don't tell them we're going to be roommates. By the time they find out, it will be too late for them to switch. Besides, there's no reason for them to say no. We're not breaking any rules by being roommates."

"Huh. I never thought about not telling them."

I ruffle Weisz's hair. "Honestly, there's sometimes where you don't use that brain at all."

"You know, I should be offended, but you're probably right. Even if they do try to get me a different roommate, I know you'll probably be able to convince them not to. You're very persuasive."

I lean towards Weisz. "The trick is just say something they don't want to hear so they'll end the conversation as soon as they can. That's why I always mention how we're safe when we have sex. They don't want to think about it, so they end the conversation."

"Yeah, I would appreciate it if you stop bringing up our sex life, by the way. Thanks."

I smile at Weisz before standing up, grabbing his hand and pulling him up as well. We walk to Mrs. Bassow and tell her that we'll be roommates. She nods and writes it on her list, so it doesn't seem like there's going to be a problem.

It shouldn't be one anyway. Sure, teachers will try to stop students from hooking up by making sure the room assignments don't encourage it, but I know certain students will probably sneak off someone during free time to hook up with someone.

Will I be one of those people with Weisz? Probably. But hey, at least we have a room so it won't be much sneaking.

It takes some time for everyone to find a roommate and for the teachers to make note of it. The meeting then continues with them telling everyone their expectations, like being respectful of the locals and of the city itself, listen to the teachers, don't do anything reckless, and even the consequences there will be if someone breaks too many rules.

I have to admit, the more the meeting goes on, the more excited I'm beginning to feel. I wasn't really too excited in the past. Sure, I will be going someone I haven't been, but for me, it was more like a 'whatever, it's just a school trip'. Now, I'm just thinking about everything I can do there.

There's not that much longer until the trip and when it's here, I hope I have the time of my life.
