chapter 40: reno is done
~reno~
School has gotten worse. The moment I walked into the front doors, I can see people glaring at me. People I don't even know the names of. While I don't exactly keep my head low, I don't bother with anyone, so I haven't done anything that would warrant all these glares.
At least, nothing I can think of. Unless I got high or wasted and decided to torment a bunch of people in the town without remembering, these people hate me for no reason.
Part of me thinks I may just be imagining all the harsh glares. I would ask Weisz if he sees them too, but he has a check up to go to. I tried convincing him to let me go with him, but he was worried I would get suspended for skipping again.
Maybe I should just play the homophobia card if Mrs. Sturgis chooses to suspend me for a stupid ass reason. Though it probably wouldn't work since she, along with the entire school board, didn't care about being homophobic when they banned me and Weisz from the dance.
By the time second period rolls around, I have a feeling that there really is a reason why so many people keep glaring at me. It just won't stop. If there is a reason, then surely people are talking about it. I haven't heard anything despite normally hearing gossip, but probably because they're not talking in front of me.
Weisz should be at school now, so when my teacher isn't looking, I take out my phone and text him to see if he has heard anything.
It's not until lunch rolls around that it becomes even more evident that there truly is a reason people are mad at me. As I put my stuff in my locker before I meet up with Weisz, someone random person says, "Thanks a lot," to me before walking off.
I don't even have the chance to question her because she's long gone by the time I processed that she sarcastically thanked me for something. No doubt Neil is involved in this somehow because he's always the one spreading rumours about me.
Right as I close my locker, the PA system dings before Mrs. Sturgis says, "Attention, students. I'm sure you've heard by now that the school dance this Friday has been cancelled. To get a refund for your tickets, please head to the dance committee's table right outside of the cafeteria."
Oh. So that's why. I'm not sure why everyone thinks it's my fault, but surely their glares are not coincidental.
I head to Weisz's locker where he's still putting his stuff away. "So everyone's blaming for the the school dance being cancelled."
Weisz furrows his eyebrows as he looks at me. "You sure that's why everyone's glaring at you."
I shrug. "I don't see it being any other reason. I mean, I don't know why the dance got cancelled but I wouldn't doubt it if Neil decided to tell everyone it's my fault."
