I Love You

Ava woke up in a bright room. At first she thought she was dead and this was Heaven, but the ache in her head and the snoring on her left proved otherwise. She looked over to see Tommy asleep in a chair in what was definitely a hospital.

"Tommy! Wake up!" she whisper-yelled at him.

He jerked awake immediately and turned to look at her. "Oh, you're awake! Thank God, how do you feel, what do you need, are you hurting?" The questions came out rushed and Ava smiled at him.

"Calm down, Tommy." She tried to sit up and flinched; she felt like she had been hit by a bus. It only took a second for her to remember what had happened in her house. The last thing she remembered was seeing Kyle raise the gun.

"Did I get shot?" she asked Tommy while feeling the side of head for bullet wounds.

"No, weirdo, you didn't get shot. But you did get pistol whipped."

"How did I get here?" She quickly scanned the room.

"If you're looking for Bucky, he's not here," Tommy began, and after seeing Ava's face fall he quickly added, "he had to meet with Detective Salazar and another detective to give a statement about what happened."

"What the happened to Kyle? Where is he?" Ava could feel her breath catch in her throat as her chest tightened with anxiety.

"He's dead!" Tommy began. "Bucky killed him after he attacked you in your house."

Ava began to cry, "I've lost him, Tommy. I said horrible things to him. He will never be able to forgive me!"

Tommy moved to the bed and wrapped her in a hug. "Tell me what happened."

Ava told him how Kyle had threatened to shoot Bucky and what she said to Bucky to make him leave.

"I didn't mean anything I said! I just couldn't let him die. I'd rather live without him than to know he was dead because of me."

"I don't think you will lose him, Ava. He loves you," when she looked like she was going to protest he added, "he may not have told you, but his actions scream it. The way he looks at you screams it. And you love him, too. Right?"

Before Ava could answer a nurse came in to ready her for discharge. After getting her IV removed and signing discharge papers, Ava was free to leave the hospital.

" I had Detective Salazar pack some clothes for you. Your house is a crime scene and you won't be able to go back for a few days," Tommy explained as they drove to his house. "Salazar also gave us your cell phone and charger. I spoke to Tiny and we both have the next week off. I don't want any arguments. You need to rest and I need to take care of you."

"You're bossy when you are in protective mode," Ava told him with a smile. "I don't want to impose on you two, again. I can go to a hotel room; I don't mind."

"No ma'am. You will not go to a hotel room by yourself. Now, if Bucky wants to take you to one and stay with you, I will allow it."

"I already told you; he is probably on his way back to New York as we speak, regretting that he ever met me," Ava couldn't keep the tears from falling or the crack in her voice as she spoke.

"I think you are wrong, Aves, look" he said as they pulled into the driveway.

Ava looked up to see Bucky standing by his motorcycle, waiting on them. Hope flared in her chest and a smile broke across her face as she looked at him. Before Tommy could put the car in park, Ava had the door open and was rushing towards Bucky.

He wasted no time in moving towards her while opening his arms. Ava threw herself into his embrace, neither one of them hesitated as their lips met in a passionate kiss.

When their lips broke apart, Ava stared up at Bucky, "I didn't mean it. I didn't mean anything I said to you. I'm so sorry." She clutched his arm as she frantically continued, "he had a gun pointed at you....I tried to get you to leave...I couldn't let him hurt you. I heard the engine on your motorcycle start, and I was so glad that you would be safe, but I was devastated that you left."

"Ava, take a breath, doll," he said with a small smile on his face. "I realized what happened before I got too far from your house. I turned around and came straight back."

"You saved my life! He knew something was different about me. He said I made him feel something the first time he attacked me. I told him about my powers and he wanted me to make him feel more emotions. You had just left, and he made me touch him...I lost control. I was so angry."

Bucky wrapped her in a hug. "I saw him hit you with his gun. I couldn't get to you fast enough to stop it. I was so afraid I had lost you," his voice wavered as she spoke.

"You won't lose me. I love you, Bucky."

Ava gasped when she realized what she had said. She looked down, not knowing how to react. She felt a hand gently raise her chin causing her to look into Bucky's beautiful blue eyes.

"Do you really mean that?" he questioned as he searched her face. When she nodded he added, " I love you, too, Ava, more than you will ever know!"  He pulled her close and lowered his lips down to hers once again. This kiss was soft, slow, and long; but it was no less passionate than the others they had shared.
