Saturday and Sunday passed and Bucky still hadn't come back from his mission. After their sleepover Saturday, Ava had spend Sunday night with Tommy and Scott at their house. She returned home Monday to take care of mundane errands and chores.
She had not heard from Detective Salazar, so she assumed no news was good news. She was taking a laundry to the utility room when she heard a sound from the spare bedroom. She pulled her cell phone from her back pocket and was ready to dial 911 if needed. She decided the best course of action would be to leave the house and let someone else check it out. She walked backwards down the hallway toward the front entrance, as she turned leave she was pushed against the front door and pinned there.
"Hey, baby, did you miss me?" She heard Kyle sneer and felt his breath on her neck as it ruffled her hair. He pulled her back against him and put a hand over her mouth to keep her from screaming. He dragged her to the couch and threw her on it, landing on top of her as soon as she hit the cushions.
She tried to use her powers, but realized he was wearing long sleeves and gloves and she couldn't make contact with his skin. He shook her to get her attention.
"You've been playing hard to get, again, Ava. Having your friends over or going to their house, did you really think I would stay away from you?" He asked as he ran his nose along her cheek.
"Kyle, listen, I need you to leave, please," she begged. "The police will be by to check on me any minute now. You can escape if you just go!"
"No, no, sweet Ava, I know the police drive by, but they don't come to the door, honey. I've been watching."
"What do you want from me, Kyle? I don't want you! I am in love with someone else, I've never led you on, I-" She gasped as he lifted her upper body by her shoulders and slammed her back onto the couch.
"You're special to me, Ava. You've made me feel things I have never felt before. When you grabbed me at the bar, I felt guilty. I've never felt that before; I don't feel anything. Don't you understand, no emotions, no happiness, no empathy, nothing! But that day, I felt bad about touching you. Why?" He shook her once again. "The doctors say I'm a psychopath, incapable of normal emotions. But you made me feel, Ava."
"I don't know what-" She was cut off when he slapped her across her cheek.
"Don't lie to me, bitch! Tell me, now." He pulled a gun out of the waist band of his jeans and held it to her head. "What is so special about you, huh? Why did you affect me?"
Ava was terrified. She didn't know what to do other than tell him about her powers. "I have powers! Like some of the Avengers, I have the power to control emotions."
A smile spread over Kyle's face. "I knew you were different! What can you make me feel, Ava? Can you make me feel love? No one has before, but maybe with you it will be different. Maybe I can be like everyone else for once." He stared down at her while licking his lips, "How does it work, Ava, how do you make people feel?" He continued to press the gun to her temple.
"I have to t...touch you. Sk-skin to skin contact." Ava stammered, knowing this could be a chance to escape. If she could make him feel enough fear, maybe she could get away.
A dark smile crossed Kyle's face. "I like that, skin to skin! Come on then," he stood and jerked her off the couch, "let's go to the bedroom."
The bedroom was the last place Ava wanted to go, she dug her heels into the carpet trying to slow them down. Kyle had turned back to her, his hand raised to slap her again when the doorbell rang. He immediately covered her mouth and drug her to the door to see who was there.
"Shit, it's the guy from the bar." He jerked Ava close to his chest.
Ava felt her heart pick up speed hearing Bucky was on the other side of the door. She was ready to make a move when Kyle reminded her of the gun in his hand by digging it into her back.
"I'll shoot him through the door, Ava. Make one wrong move and he's dead. Get rid of him. Answer the door and tell him to leave," he whispered furiously.
"What am I supposed to say to him," she whispered back as he continued to push the gun into her back.
"I don't care, whatever it is better be believable, though, if you want him to live. I will shoot him thru the door if he doesn't leave. So get rid of him. Now!" He turned the gun and pushed it against the front door.
Ava swallowed nervously and unlocked and cracked the door open.
"Bucky." She tried to sound angry but knew she was failing. "I need you to leave! I don't want you here." She hated the look of disbelief that crossed his face.
"What do you mean, Ava? What happened?" he started to walk closer to the door to try to come in.
"No! Bucky. I can't do this. You remind me too much of what happened to me in the past. Too much of Hydra. I can't see you anymore," she couldn't stop the tears that ran down her cheeks. Her heart was shattering from the devastation she saw in his eyes.
"Let me come in, Doll," he whispered, stepping closer to the door again, "let's talk about this, please."
"Leave! Now!" She screamed as Kyle cocked the hammer of his gun in warning. "We are done! I could never be with you! I could never love you!" The words tore from her throat while she continued to sob. She hated to hurt him, but she couldn't survive Bucky dying because of her.
She closed the door so she couldn't see his heartbroken face, but watched thru the peephole as he walked back to his motorcycle. When she heard the engine start, she fell to her knees sobbing loudly as tears continued to fall.
"Good girl, Ava," Kyle crooned as he reached down to her, "let's get you to the bedroom." She didn't struggle when he picked her up and carried her toward her bedroom.
