Fight Night

"Friday night, Ava!" Tom called from across the bar, "Fight Night has arrived."

"Woo-hoo!" she shouted back to him with a grin. Tom had been her best friend for years. He and his partner Scott were like the brothers she never had, and sometimes never wanted. They were the few people that Ava let in her inner circle.  She was not a trusting individual and never let her guard down.

"Tommy, do you want the bar or tables tonight?" she asked him. Taking the bar meant she would serve drinks to the patrons at the bar. Tables meant the waitresses would bring back orders to be filled. Both had their pros and cons. Ava preferred working the bar. She was able to watch the patrons and make sure there was no trouble.

"Come on, Love! I know you always want to people watch! You have to work your magic and keep the people happy," Tom chuckled. He never understood how you were able to defuse arguments when you worked, but when you were on duty, the bar was fist-fight free.

"It is just my sparkling personality!" Ava sarcastically replied.

"Sure, sure," Tom returned, "it has nothing to do with the free drinks you give them when they calm down." She smiled and shrugged at his statement.

"Guilty, as charged. I can't help that free booze soothes the savage beasts!"

Tom walked closer to her, an evil grin spreading across his handsome face. "Speaking of savage beasts....look at the one sitting at table eight!" he whispered conspiratorially.

Ava just shook her head. This was a common theme with Tom recently. He was always pointing out men for her to look at. She knew he was pushing for her to start dating. He had been hinting at it for 3 years now. She looked up quickly just so he would shut up.

"Holly Hell!" she whispered, when her eyes landed on table eight. Sitting there was the most handsome man she had ever seen. He had dark hair, a scruffy beard, and the brightest blue eyes she had ever seen. Add to that his height and physique and you had the perfect specimen of a man.

"Told you," Tom said as he sauntered away.

The man sitting next to the savage beast was just as handsome. Tall, dark skin, great smile; he looked familiar. "Oh, shit!" Ava whispered. "Shit, shit, shit! That is Captain America! Why is he here? Tom, can you cover for a minute? I need to make a phone call."

Ava walked to the storage room and called a rarely used number.

"Hello, been a long time since we spoke, Ava."

"Dammit, Fury! Why is Captain America sitting in my bar? We agreed that I would stay off the radar and live a semi-normal life!"

"Well, you didn't stay off the radar. I have a security video that shows me that pretty well, St.John. What was John Walker doing in Texas?"

"How should I know, Fury! He wanted to offer me a job, which I declined. I can't help that he lost his temper and threw a shield at my head! Now call off America's New Ass and leave me alone!" Ava huffed out breath.

"No can do, St. John! I am afraid you will need to deal with Wilson and Barnes on your own." With that Fury hung up the phone, leaving Ava fuming.
