"P-Poison?!?"

I covered my ears as Kian suddenly shouted loudly, completely overreacting to my simple request.

"I just need a potion so I can be immune to poison. Why are you making such a big deal out of it? It's not like I'm going to die," I told him, and he frowned when he heard my words.

"Why would you need that when you have me protecting you!" he suddenly declared, making everyone else in the room dramatically fall over, staring at their tough boss saying such a thing.

"It's not like you'll be with me every second of every day, and besides, it's just for self-defense," I reasoned. I wasn't sure why I was even trying to make him understand why I needed it.

"Alyssa, there won't be any more threats to you because you're no longer the crown princess. Who are you afraid of?" he asked me, suddenly holding both my eyes, looking at me with worry.

Who?

Who else but my annoying sister, who wanted me dead at any cost, and that pushy Princess who was obsessed with the Marquis who wanted to marry me?

"Anyway, I need poison immunity. If you don't give me some... I'll cut all ties with you and never see you again," I stated, pulling my hands away from his grip, hearing him take a loud sigh.

I knew Kian couldn't win against me. Even if I threatened never to see him again, he would immediately give me what I wanted.

"Fine, Smiley... Give her the Tears of Daphne, but remember, my Muse, you only need to drink a tiny drop of it, or it will be too much and won't work," he explained as Smiley then brought the potion.

"How long will the immunity last?" I asked him, examining the potion in my hands.

"It will last for ten hours, so use it at the right time," he told me, and I nodded, standing up from my seat.

"Leaving already?" he asked, looking at me with eyes that seemed to say, 'Stay a little longer?'

"I'm sorry, but I have a family meeting later at three. See ya!" I said and walked out of his office, hiding the potion in the pocket of my dress.

I had personally sewn pockets into all my dresses. I had been doing it ever since before Ellie arrived to serve me.
Pockets were very important to me, and besides... no one would suspect that the world's greatest poison immunity potion was in my dress right now, because everyone knew that dresses didn't have pockets. They would expect it to be with her maid or in a small bag.

As I walked back home, in the part of the city where many unpleasant people stayed and did shady things, I lived...

Step step

I felt someone following me. Taking a quick look, I saw two cloaked men behind me.

I smirked and walked in a direction that would make them lose me. So who wants to kill me this time?

These people seemed like professionals, so they could probably follow me easily, but it wouldn't take long for them to lose my trail.

Hiding in a corner, I peeked at the two cloaked men, who were now standing some distance away, realizing they had lost me.

I smirked, watching them look foolish as they tried to figure out where I was. I was about to walk away since they were getting boring.

"Ugh... Why does the Emperor want that dumb Princess's eyes?"

One of them said, grabbing my attention and making me stop in my tracks. I looked back to see the two cloaked men still deep in thought.

"Sure, they're beautiful, but I doubt there's any magic in them. If there was, that princess wouldn't be the family's outcast," the other one said.

It seemed these two knew something about my eyes. Did he say Emperor?

It looked like another person had been added to my list of people who wanted me dead. I knew the Emperor was a wicked, greedy man, but to think he was wicked enough to kidnap me and take my eyes, which I had no idea were special.

It seemed that the truth about my golden eyes was slowly coming closer.

Waiting for them to walk away, I quietly walked through the city streets, trying hard not to let them catch me.

But—

Wouldn't it be much simpler to learn about my eyes by letting the Emperor kidnap me and interrogate me?

Why didn't I think of that earlier! I'm so dumb—

Bang

"Oww."

Why did it have to be now, of all times, that I bumped into someone? "I'm sorry, good sir, for bumping into you—"

"Lady Alyssa?"

I froze, hearing a voice that I had been trying to avoid ever since my life here began. Slowly raising my head, I saw Allen, the Marquis.

I could see his sweet and warm smile, shining so brightly at me.

And he's glowing.

A typical second male lead situation that often made the main character eventually fall in love because of his radiant charm.

This is why I avoid meeting him...

"Can I have a small word?"
