"Now talk," I said, crossing my legs and sitting in front of him, taking a small sip of my tea.
Being face-to-face with the Marquis, who had a very smug grin, was making me feel annoyed. If he hadn't spotted me in that dark alleyway, I wouldn't be here talking to him right now.
I could feel everyone's eyes on us, but who cared? Let them spread rumors. It wasn't like I was going to accept his ridiculous proposal.
"Why won't you meet with me again? Is it because of what I did?" he asked, and I felt confused by his words. Meet him again?
Well, I knew the Marquis liked Alyssa, but did they always meet like this?
"Marquis, I'm afraid I can't answer that because I've lost my memories," I said, smiling brightly. I could practically feel his world crumbling.
"W-what?! You don't remember the promise you made with me?!" He panicked, making me even more confused.
I had no idea what their relationship was like, but it probably wasn't simple.
"I'm sorry, I don't recall any promise, Marquis," I simply stated as I took a bite of a macaroon, resting my chin on my hand.
But why did I feel like something was wrong about this promise they made?
"You promised me that day that you'd break up with His Highness and officially become mine," he said, and I quickly spat out the tea in my mouth.
"What?!"
After hearing his sudden words, I nearly choked. So originally... wait... I didn't even know what happened originally. Everything was a mess.
"That's why, since the breakup, I tried to be close to you with everyone seeing us, and yet you started to push me away," he sadly remarked, and I sighed loudly.
"Look, first of all, you and I had a secret, close relationship that was hidden from everyone?" I asked, and he nodded eagerly.
I couldn't even tell if he was lying or not, but why did I feel like something was off about his words?
"Alyssa, you know that I truly love you. My words reached your heart that day I gave you the necklace, and—"
"Wait... Necklace?" As I asked about it, his eyes widened, not in shock but in realization.
Was there a necklace that Alyssa owned? As far as I knew, she hated wearing necklaces. It was rather strange that she had accepted a necklace from him.
"You've lost the necklace?!?! When?! Is that why you won't see me?!" He panicked, even though he tried not to show it. It was obvious by how flustered he was.
"We must find it!" he added, and I felt even more suspicious of his actions.
"It must have fallen in the lake a few months back," I said, trying to test his emotions even more.
"Ehhh?!?! Then we can't find it anymore!!!"
Why did he want to find that stupid necklace so badly? What did it have to do with Alyssa's and his relationship, which I had read never even happened?
And—
Wait...
"Is it perhaps... a love potion?" I asked, raising my eyebrows as I stared at him, feeling taken aback by my own sudden words.
"What are you talking about?! I—"
I laughed in disbelief as he shut his mouth, avoiding my gaze.
It seemed the Marquis had also done something dishonest.
Why did the Author even make him an angelic second male lead when originally he was a freaking jerk who used a love potion on Alyssa?
That day when she died... why did so many things have to happen?
"How funny... to think that the Marquis doesn't play fair either," I said, and his face twisted. "Isn't His Highness also not playing fair? Because he practically used an imperial order to make you engaged to each other?!" he defended, and I rolled my eyes, glaring at him.
"That's just a sign that he's more powerful than you, unlike you who used a potion to make me fall in love. Didn't you even have the slightest guilt giving me a potion?" I asked him, and his gaze shifted away from mine.
"To think that I even thought you were an angelic man, but you've destroyed my fantasy... I'm now fed up with you and wish not to see you again. Now goodbye... you fucker," I whispered the last part as I left him there, lost in his thoughts about his actions.
To think that the Marquis would do that...
In the story, did he also give a potion to Catherine to make her fall in love with him?Because if he did that to Alyssa, there was no doubt he would do it to Catherine too.
So much for an angelic man in the story who was actually a demon in disguise...
