Chapter 25

They were in between their celebration when Nandani's phone rang. Everyone looked at each other trying to figure out who was not there but thought that it might be Aryaman who was missing the day. Nandani went and picked up her phone to see an unknown number. Nandani frowned and then picked up the call stepping out after 5 minutes she came in screaming for her mother.

Her mother looked at her surprised and then frowned while her friends were in disbelief at her reaction and chuckled. Her mother asked her,

Mother: what the hell happened?

Nandani: I got a Scholarship from Christ University Pune for my English Honors degree!!!

She screamed at the top of her voice making all of her friends halt for a second while her mother asked,

Mother: When did you even fill out the form?

Nandani: Well, we were asked in the hostel to fill out the form of our favourite college or dream college so we searched the city and then I settled on Christ! And I filled out the form and forgot about it because obviously (she said making a face) But, now they called up and asked about my marks which I told they also asked some other questions if I was still interested and all to which I said yes and so they were like 'okay you are getting the scholarship because of your marks' They are skipping all the interview and stuff because I am on the top with 100 marks in English!

Mother: And what is in the scholarship?

Nandani: 70% rebate on fees plus no charges for PGs or hostel whatever I choose plus free entry to the library for the entire course and later!!

Her mother smiled at her and said,

Mother: But I thought that you wanted to go to DU?

Nandani: I did but Christ Mom!! Are you kidding me? It literally can give me a chance to step out of the country if I work twice as hard as I did now! And I will do anything to get that!

Her mother sighed and looked at her friends who were just listening to the conversation when Nandani asked them and her mother seeing their faces,

Nandani: Come on guy is no one happy with it?

They all looked at each other and sighed not knowing what to say! Of course, it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity but she just came back after 4 years and now she wants to go away again.

Her mother looked at their faces and said,

Mom: why don't we talk to your father about it first Nandani?

Nandani sighed and said,

Nandani: There is no point in talking to you all, I am going and that's final! Do whatever you want!

She took her phone and left to her room ignoring her mother's calls while everyone there stood still. Soon Manik and Sanket left without saying anything followed by others. Nandani went to her room and sat there huffing. She soon took her book and started reading it not leaving the room.

It was night now when she stepped out of her room just to see her dad who had just come back and was congratulating her on her marks. She faked a smile and some excitement when he said about throwing a party. She had her dinner and was going to sleep when she heard her parents talking,

Dad: so, let her do na! What is the problem? She never really asked us before doing anything so who are we to involve? If she wanted to discuss the, could I have discussed it with us in all these months? But she told us after all these months cause apparently, she was busy living the time of her life with her friends. So, let's just leave it and let her do whatever she wants to.
