One of the highlights of being best friends with Adam, Bree and Chase was definitely getting the chance to watch their training sessions. Each one was a unique experience, full of unexpected moments and serious skills.
Today, however, it was particularly interesting since they were in the mission simulator, preparing for what was supposed to be a mission that required focus, precision and teamwork.
The three of them stood on a platform in the Lab, wearing black goggles that looked more like something out of a futuristic action movie than a training exercise. Behind the second control panel in the lab were Mr. Davenport, Leo and Harper, all overseeing the mission from the sidelines.
The simulation had just ended and Mr. Davenport pulled the key from the control panel with a dramatic flourish. "Adam, that was the rebel leader. The whole purpose of today's mission simulation was to interrogate him."
"I did, and his answer was, 'aahhh!'." Adam responded with a chuckle.
The three bionic teens walked over to join Mr. Davenport, Leo and Harper by the control panel after stepping off the platform.
"Hey, next time could you maybe throw in a cute, blue-eyed rebel?" Bree suggested with a mischievous grin. Mr. Davenport gave her a look. "What? I'm just sayin'. It's not gonna kill you to add a little somethin' - somethin' for the ladies."
"Step aside, amateurs." Leo said, strutting past Adam and Chase with a confident smirk. He handed the goggles to Harper and linked arms with her, leading her to the platform. "Go ahead, Big D. Set it to 'Awesome'."
Harper stretched her arms with a grin. "Yeah, Mr. Davenport. I wanna see if I can do some serious damage."
Mr. Davenport stood on the platform and took the goggles from them. "Guys, these goggles are not a toy."
"Come on! My birthday's coming up- Globally known as 'Dia De Leo'." Leo told his step-dad.
Mr. Davenport shook his head. "No. I designed the mission simulator to fine-tune their bionics. Not to go on 3-d joyrides. Besides you're not trained for it."
"I've watched a lot of The Karate Kid movies, if that helps." Harper muttered, eyeing on the floor.
Mr. Davenport didn't even bother to reply before walking off the platform to work on the goggles, with Leo and Harper following behind him.
"Well, how about as a birthday gift you give me my first bionic ability?" Leo asked.
"Or I could gift-wrap reality and you could play with that for a while." Mr. Davenport suggested with a smirk before walking away.
Chase, who had been observing the banter, stood up from his chair and crossed his arms. "So, Leo's having a birthday. What are you, like, nine?"
"Fourteen." Leo corrected, his pride evident in his voice.
