In the morning, Adam, Bree, Chase, Leo and Harper made their way to the Lab, curious about Mr. Davenport's latest invention. The anticipation was palpable, though none of them were sure what to expect this time.

They entered the elevator, the usual clanging of metal filling the air as they descended. Harper leaned casually against the wall, watching the floor numbers tick down as the elevator swiftly moved.

When the elevator stopped with a soft ding, the teenagers followed Mr. Davenport out into the Lab. Mr. Davenport wasted no time with pleasantries. He immediately launched into one of his dramatic presentations.

"Inventing the wheel? Boring. Discovering electricity? Snooze. Sliced bread? Lame." Mr. Davenport said, his arms flailing as if he was building up to something monumental. "But now, Davenport Industries introduces the world's first..." He paused dramatically and threw a cloth off a covered machine. "Proton Fuser!"

Harper, who was usually the first to be impressed by any tech, raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms over her stomach. The others stood there, unimpressed, their faces betraying their lack of enthusiasm.

"You know, for a scientist you'd think your payoffs would be a bit more proportionate to your buildups." Leo remarked.

"Uh, the payoff is that it allows us to see the origins of the universe. This thing fuses subatomic particles so we can understand how planets form." Mr. Davenport explained.

"Well, we already understand how boredom forms." Bree quipped.

"Haven't you ever wondered where stuff comes from? Galaxies? Stars? Planets?" Mr. Davenport wondered.

"This stuff, no. Onion rings, yes." Adam replied honestly.

"Guys, I have always wanted to build this thing and now, it's a reality." Mr. Davenport said, his eyes gleaming with excitement. "It's an important life lesson. If you have a dream, believe in it because it can happen." Mr. Davenport encouraged.

Harper, arms still crossed, gave Mr. Davenport a look that mixed concern with mild sarcasm. "Um, Mr. Davenport, isn't it dangerous to tinker with the fabric of the universe?"

Adam chuckled. "She said 'Tinker'."

"Yes, technically, it could destabilize the earth, or open up a wormhole into a parallel universe. But I made it and I want to play with it." Mr. Davenport said as he walked over to the Proton Fuser, his excitement palpable.

"This won't end well." Harper muttered under her breath.

Mr. Davenport typed away on the keyboard. Within seconds, the Proton Fuser activated, and a brilliant blue light flickered from each side of the machine. The lights seemed to converge in the middle, and a small ball started to form between them.

"Prepare to be amazed!" Mr. Davenport announced grandly.

"Or gravely injured." Chase added, standing a little farther back, eyeing the machine warily.
