"Harper!"

Harper woke up with a groan, the warm, cozy bed beckoning her to stay just a little longer. She stretched lazily, relishing the comfort of the soft sheets before deciding it was time to get moving.

The morning was always a bit of a struggle for her, but she had a knack for dragging herself out of bed just enough to annoy her sister Lyla. With a quick tug, Harper neatly tucked the corner of her bedsheet into the headboard—a small gesture that would surely drive her sister mad when Lyla inevitably noticed.

"Harper!" Lyla's voice pierced through the quiet morning, louder this time, the impatience clear.

"I'm up!" Harper called back, already making her way to the bathroom. She didn't rush; mornings were all about taking it slow.

The hot shower was a small luxury she enjoyed every day. As the water cascaded over her, she used her favorite fruity shower gel, which left a pleasant, sweet scent lingering on her skin. She took her time, letting the steam and warmth relax her muscles. Her routine wasn't anything complicated—just a quick razor over her legs to remove the weekend's stubble, nothing fancy.

Afterward, Harper wrapped herself in a towel and wandered back to her room, purposefully ignoring her sister's calls. She was in no mood to hurry.

Back in her bedroom, Harper tossed on a simple but effortlessly cool outfit: a black singlet, a red plaid shirt, and black skinny jeans. She couldn't be bothered to spend too much time on her hair, so she pulled it into place with a quick swipe and topped it off with a red beanie. Harper liked looking put-together without putting in too much effort.

Her makeup was minimal—she didn't need foundation, her skin naturally clear. Just a bit of concealer to cover the dark circles under her eyes, a touch of mascara, and a quick brush of her eyebrows, and she was ready. No need to waste time, especially when she had other things on her mind.

As Harper jogged downstairs, grabbing her pre-packed backpack and double-checking her homework, she found herself smiling a little. There was something exciting about today—a feeling that only grew stronger when she entered the kitchen and saw Lyla sitting at the table with her porridge.

"Am I driving you to school today?" Lyla questioned.

Harper shook her head, not even looking up as she grabbed a piece of fruit from the counter. "No. A guy I like is picking me up, and we're walking to school together."

"A guy? Who is it? Is it Chase?"

"No, it's not Chase, Lyla. His name is Marcus. We've hung out a couple of times."

Before Lyla could press for more details, there was a knock at the door, making both sisters freeze momentarily. Harper gave Lyla a quick look, and without another word, they both rushed to the front door, eager for what was about to unfold.
