It was time that healed all wounds they say, but in this case it was the friendship, the memories and the togetherness is what had everyone going.

They understood things on a deeper level now, they knew that even though things had drastically changed between them, they were still the same people at heart.

School had ended a long time ago and so were the times when the world was their oyster.

Droplets of tears ran down Adam's eyes as he finished washing his hands in the men's washroom. He took a minute to look at himself and where had he come after all that had happened. He took a deep sigh and headed back to the table where a lady, so kind and so sacrificial, was waiting with a smile which always brightened upon seeing him.

Adam took a moment to pause, to appreciate her as he saw his wife sitting in a beautiful dress, poised with her back arched, from afar. He was grateful for what she had done for him. She had sacrificed her happiness in order to make him happy, and fulfill a wish which she was not obligated to. She had entered into a relationship with him which not only was a lifetime of engagement but a real hard work and a dawning commitment too.

Was it love? Adam did not know. It did not seem to be for him. After almost 7 years of being with her, he was not, did not, and could never fall in love with her and of that he was sure. But over the years, seeing her grow and step up in situations which were extremely challenging, Adam had an admiration for her and her deeds, and that is what made him stay committed to her, as her husband along with a promise he had made years back.

As Adam approached the table and took his seat she looked at him with love. After a bit id silence he asked, "Do you want anything else?"

"No, I am good to go, anyway it is pretty late. We should be heading home." Everly replied.

Adam nodded and gestured the waiter to send the cheque over. There usually was not a lot to discuss with Everly since after school, and it had further diminished to mundane questions and check in especially after what had happened. They had a past that they could not deny, a wall between them, but they were creating a future that they both had to stay in together. They sat in complete silence till the cheque came. Though there were lesser words, it was never uncomfortable between them. They both could sit for hours with each other without speaking and there would be nothing indifferent about it. It was something they had gotten used to, it was something Everly had to get used to.

The cheque was brought by the waiter and Adam payed for it. It was the first time that they both alone were out together in a long time. It felt good, Adam thought.

As they walked towards the door to exit the restaurant, Adam held Everly's hands and faced her. He said with teary eyes, "Thank you for everything Everly. And thank you for always being there for me. I know I might not prove to be the best husband, but I will try my best that I can to never make you feel less than anything in this world. You are already the best wife I could have, after everything that has happened and after everything that we have all been through."

Everly, took Adam in her embrace, and started tearing a little too. She began to say something but could not seem to find the right words, so she just hugged him a little tighter and let the silence speak for itself. Adam took Everly's hand in his and they walked towards the car where the valet was already waiting for them.

Adam, being a gentleman opened the door for Everly and let her sit in the car first, taken a back to how it was before all of this happened. He quickly ran towards his door, and saw it was already open, and the valet was no where to be found. It was Everly, she had reached over to open the door for him. His vocabulary failed to describe the gesture. Everly knew what he felt and so she had no objection when he did not even say a thank you, she never wanted a thank you.

As they drove away on their way to their home, emotions embodied the silence between them. The bond between them, was nothing but solely the matters of the heart.
