"How is Maheen, doctor?" Adam asked with all the hopes that he could conjure up, wishing that there would be a different answer this time. But it was the same, always the same. "I am sorry Adam, there seems to be no improvement in her health."

"But there needs to be something that we can do, it has been 3 months, she is a mother, my two children need her, her daughter needs her I  need her!" Adam could not control his frustration with the staff and almost yelled. Everly right beside him kept a calming hand on his shoulder, which made him realise what state he was just in. He immediately reverted and spoke, "I am sorry doctor. But it has been 3 months, there is something that we can do."

"We can only wait for her to wake up Adam, we absolutely have done everything in our power. We just have to wait. The good thing here is she is still breathing on her own, without too much assistance from the machines."

Adam calmed down and sat in the waiting area with Everly beside him.

"She is gonna make it Adam. Maheen is going to come back to us."

"She has to. She really has to." Adam said, as he looked in a void, losing himself in the possibilities of the future.

He gained back his sense and turned to Everly, looking at her with tears in his eyes, "Thank you Everly. Really. Thank you for being there. You gave up your job and took the responsibilities which was not even yours.... I dont....."

"No no, Adam, you don't have to tell me anything. I am glad I could step in. I'll always be there for you, Maheen and those little children. You guys have accepted me again, this is the least I could do."

Adam took a deep breathe and rested for a bit on Everly's shoulders. His sleep was a mess, when he was not in the hospital he was home, taking care of the children and when he was in the hospital the hope of seeing Maheen open her eyes kept him awake.

Everly was glad that she could give him a few minutes of peace in whatever way possible. They were both too young to go through all of these in their lives so early. And she was glad she could be there for him, glad that she could step in when it mattered the most.

"Adam! Adam! Wake up Adam." Adam had slept on Everly's shoulder without realising it, he was exhausted and Everly understood it.

"Adam, Maheen is awake." Everly said in a low but a happy voice, as soon as he opened his eyes.

Adam, without thinking for another second, ran to Maheen's room. He burst into the room and saw Maheen's eyes shift to him immediately. She gave a weak smile and mouthed 'hi' to Adam. And Adam broke down again.

"Stop. Why are you crying?" Maheen said as she put her hand on Adam's head. It was almost unreal for Adam. To have Maheen back, talking, touching him, looking at him with those beautiful eyes and smiling at him with the best of her smiles. She was still week and tired and Adam could see it in her eyes, but she was back to him, and that's all that mattered.

"Adam, I am here." She bent forward and kissed Adam on his forehead. Droplet of tears rolled down her cheek as well as she pulled Adam closer with all the strength she could conjure up. She whispered in his ears, "How is our daughter?"

Adam came face to face to her and said, "She is beautiful, just a tiny bit more beautiful than you are." They both chuckled.

While Adam and Maheen caught up, Everly walked into the room. Maheen's eye lit up as soon as she saw her!
