"It was really terrible what happened to her."

"Life is always so unfair to the good hearted ones."

Tia and Anna conversed as they entered the morning class together.

Everly, being closely behind them could not help but over hear and be intrigued to what they were saying. For less than a second, the thought she had  their conversation.   overheard the conversation and her first thought went to the wish she had made last night. 'It is not possible.' She murmured to herself, and then leaped towards Tia in disbelief.

"What? What is unfair? What is horrible?" Everly asked in a curiosity that no one had ever seen or presented. She absolutely had to know what was going on.

"Ummm.. you don't know?" Tia asked in a low tone.

"No I don't. What is it? Tell me already!" Everly asked in a sense of hurry.

"Umm... It is about Maheen, we thought you wouldn't want to know." Anna replied in a low tone, evaluating the things that had happened between them.

"What about Maheen? Can you please not create anymore suspense?!" Everly nearly shouted, loosing her patience completely with Tia and Anna.

"It's Maheen's dad.... he is no more. He died of cancer, day before yesterday." Tia replied to a bewildered Everly.

Everly had her eyes wide open and her mouth but she could not speak a single word, she stared into nothingness for sometime and then walked away from Tia and Anna.  Leaving them completely confused.

After walking for sometime in the hallway, she decided to make a run for her car. She started it and froze for sometime, and realised how wrong she had been in this whole situation. Adam was going through a tough situation and all she could do was hurt him more, no wonder he just agreed to everything she said, he had no strength left. She realized he probably needed her at the most difficult time and she was not there for him.

She drive frantically to Adam's house but could not find him there, she then headed to Maheen's house. There were a lot of people collected below her apartment, she rushed up the stairs.

"Hi. Can you tell me where is Maheen?" Everly asked a strange looking women who made the guests comfortable and whom everybody seemed to be asking for things.

"She is at the hospital, she will be back in sometime. Would you like to wait hon?"

"No, it is okay. I will come back later."

"Okay, who should I say stopped by? I mean your name?" The lady asked Everly.

Everly took a sharp breathe in and said, "No one." And Everly left the building.

She had never been so disappointed in herself. She took sometime to gather herself in the car and then headed off home.

************

Everly could see the sadness in Maheen's eyes. Why wouldn't it be? She had lost ger family, she was alone in the cruel world. Well Adam would hold her hand every step of the way, but still alone. She did not pity her, Everly sympathize with her, she cared for her, even though they weren't friends, and very unlikely to become one either.

Adam and Maheen, held each other close, Maheen's head was down and she held Adam close to her as they both walked down the school hall with their hands in each other's.

Maheen could here whispers, and some people even came up to her to say few words of condolences, but none of it really mattered. She was completely shattered. Maheen just did her best to keep her head straight and do what she did best, get straight A's.
