Playing and singing loudly like some street performers, brought Maheen home completely infuriated. Such rich kids feel that they can have their own way, that the world is their oyster!
As she threw her shoes and bags, she headed straight to the kitchen to calm herself down. She grabbed a chilled water bottle and made herself a lemonade to aid her burning head.
As a repercussion of the damn singing and playing in the class. Maheen could hardly concentrate on her English reading assignment, and the thought of finishing it now just made her more furious.
"One more additional work, which I could have easily finished if it weren't for those hooligans." Maheen thought to herself as she drank her lemonade in one go. She washed the glass, grabbed her bag and headed to her room to get started on her assignments. She sat for hours together to finish everything that had to be submitted tomorrow or on a later date.
The door bell is what distracted her from her assignments and that's when she closed up everything and headed towards the door.
"Daddyy! Welcome home!" Maheen greeted her father with the biggest smile and hugged him.
They chatted for a bit over a cup of tea. She caught him up about all that was happening in school and he caught her up in all that was happening in the office. After exchanging the happenings of the day. They headed to their respective work. Father went to freshen up and Maheen got herself to kitchen to prepare dinner.
Maheen Aziz was an exquisite looking girl. She had long, black and luxuriant hair. She was fair in color and replicated the features of an elegant angel. She was short and sweet in height but stood tall reminding everyone of the strength she possessed. She was focused! She wanted to become the best business women she can. She did not know and she did not know when, but she knew a day would come that the Forbes Magazine will do a feature piece on her.
Her ambitions exceed her age and so did her responsibilities. Her father did not have a job which could pay for their luxury, but it was enough to make it through. She was grateful to not have to work jobs to help out her father, and could concentrate on her education. But while she did not hold job outside the door she held a huge job inside. Maheen had to take care of everything in the house, from cleaning to cooking, to everything else.
Maheen had lost her mother when she was very young, she did not even see or know her mother in real life, whatever she knew of her mother was from the stories her father shared with her. Maheen's father had not overcome the death of her mother still, even though it had been a longtime, he still felt an emptiness inside but smiled his brightest for his daughter.
They were a mediocre family suffering from the pain of great loss, but life goes on and they had to too.
They lived in small house apartment not so far from Maheen's school. Her father always wanted her to get the best education and with his hard work and Maheen's focus they were both able to fulfill each other's dream.
Maheen was also a very talented girl. She had legs which could move like a dancing queen. Dance was her passion but somewhere along the way with all the responsibilities and education that passion did not seem much important to her. A writer was also hidden inside Maheen. She would write poems or stories whenever she got time. There was a hidden shelf inside her cupboard which consists all of her treasured writings.
She did share some with the people she knew and whoever read it, was always compelled by how beautifully each word blended in and how wonderfully every sentence made complete sense. Her words spoke highly of her, who was also recognized by her teachers and they always encouraged her to write more and more.
After finishing her dinner, Maheen went on to wash the dishes. There was an unexpected knock on the door.
She rushed to open and it and too her surprise on the other side of the door were her best friends!
However and whatever was happening in her life, apart from her father, she was most grateful for her friends - Tia and Anna.
She adored them both very much, trusted them with her life. But she also always knew that she had another purpose, another aim and she could not afford to deviate. She hung out only with them and did not make much effort to make any new friends. Tia and Anna were her life and she wanted it to be that way. They were a huge part of her small world and little happiness. They all knew what exactly her life was about and what was she going through. They knew everything and she knew everything about them.
The real and carefree Maheen was only to be seen with them. For everyone else she was a mean and stubborn girl one could ever know, but for them she was an angel and they did not mind what others thought of her.
A surprised Maheen could not find words.
"Hey, girl! We here to spend the night. Is it okay?" Maheen turned to her father who gave a pleasant smile and nodded his head in approval. Without Maheen speaking any word, they both entered and headed straight to her room.
"Abba, is that okay?" Maheen confirmed with her father.
"Ofcourse my child." Maheen's father took her in his embrace kissed his forehead and continued, "Now go enjoy, I will take care of the dishes."
"Thank you Abba."
Maheen, Tia and Anna gossiped, danced all night long! Because that's what their friendship was, show up for each other and have fun!
They gossiped about their classmates and the subject of Adam and Everly came up.
Tia with engrossing interest asked. "Do you think Adam and Everly are dating?"
"They seem incredibly close, but I am not sure of it." Replied Anna with least interest.
"Why do you bother with who Everly is dating?" Asked Maheen.
"Well I just hope she is not seeing Kyle." This statement by Tia peeked the interest of Anna and Maheen.
"What!" Maheen and Anna replied in unison.
"Well yeah, I really like Kyle and speak to him sometimes to, but I can never navigate where his head is at?" Tia released a huge sigh and lay on the bed.
As far as they new Kyle, Maheen and Anna both thought that Tia and Kyle were good for each other. They just needed a bit of a push in the right direction that's all.
"Let's see what can be done!" Anna replied.
"Really! You can do something?" Tia got up in excitement.
"We shall try our best, no promises." Maheen intervened.
Tia grabbed both of them and gave them a tight hug, as they kept gossiping, Maheen's head, without her realizing, went straight to Adam and Everly.
What was going on with them? She thought and at the same time shrugged the thought away, because it was not what she wanted. But it still intrigued her.
After gossiping for most of the time, they were reminded of why they were actually there - To study for a test! They started studying for the test for what was remaining of the night!
