CHAPTER THREE.

Steve and Lexa both agreed upon going to McDonald's. The car ride was mostly full of silence, until Lexa spoke up.

"Do you wanna talk about what happened?" Lexa asked softly.

"It's just bullshit, Lexa. She doesn't love me." Steve answered sadly.

"Steve, I'm sure that's not true." Lexa said.

"Drunk words are just sober thoughts or whatever, right though?" Steve sighed.

After they had gotten their food, Lexa pulled the car into the parking lot.

"Well, I know it hurts now, but I promise there will be many girls in the future who will be lining up for you." Lexa grinned.

"Weren't you just trash talking my skills with the ladies?" Steve sipped his drink, a playful look in his eyes.

"Who knows. Maybe you'll impress me." Lexa smiled. Just then, Lexa remembered she still had her blonde wig on and took it off. She removed the bobby pins that were secured to the wig and let her natural brown and curly hair fall down to her shoulders.

"And what about you? Are you one of these ladies who will be lining up for me?" Steve questioned.

"Gross. Oh my god- not because of you. You're very attractive, I just don't want to be a rebound. I should be the main attraction, Steve." Lexa scrambled through her words.

"You think I'm attractive?" Steve smirked.

"Shut up. I'm glad my word vomit is amusing for you." Lexa rolled her eyes. In all reality, she actually was glad, Steve seemed happier right now then, well, the whole night.

They were then stuck in another peaceful lull, this time Steve breaking the silence.

"Hey, um, I probably shouldn't even explain this to you, but I'm going to anyway. And if someone does beat my ass for telling you this, I'll just say I was drunk." Steve said.

A million scenarios just flew through Lexa's mind. She tried to remain calm.

"You know being drunk isn't an excuse for being an asshole or going to stop you from getting your ass beat, but continue." Lexa turning her full body towards him, he has her full attention.

"Honestly, I don't even expect you to believe me. But, you know what you said to me the other day? About Hawkins being full of 'aliens and monsters and shit'? You weren't exactly wrong. Actually you were almost weirdly spot on." Steve started to explain.

"What do you mean?" Lexa asked.

"It basically started about a year ago, I was having a party at my house....

"Wow." Lexa pondered the information that was just given to her, "I am so awesome."

"I just told you some potentially earth-shattering and life-threatening shit and your takeaway is that you're awesome?" Steve looked at her as if she had grown three heads.

"Fuck yeah. I should become a psychic or some shit." Lexa popped a fry into her mouth.

"But you believe what I said, right?" Steve wondered.

"Honestly, yes. We don't really know each other that well and I don't think you would have an advantage by lying to me or making up some story." Lexa explained. But then Lexa thought further, and them not knowing each other that well was kind of untrue. They had been talking and eating for hours now. Steve spoke up, snapping her out of her thoughts.

"Touché. But now it's your turn." Steve gestured towards her.

"My turn?" Lexa's eyebrows furrowed.

"I just gave you some good information, now you tell me good information about you." Steve nodded on.

Lexa knew there was one glaring piece of details about her life that Steve wanted to know, why she moved to Hawkins.

"Fine, I'll tell you why I moved here, but don't be disappointed if the story isn't as good as fighting inter-dimensional monsters." Lexa sighed.

"I'm listening." Steve said, his gaze all on her.

"Before I tell you anything, just know that I was being dramatic about it being a long story. But, basically, my mom passed away two years ago. And don't feel bad or anything, we're still healing, but we're working through it. Anyways, we thought we could go on like normal after a few months, but obviously we couldn't. Almost everything reminded us of her. So, my dad and I decided we should start fresh. He pulled out a map of the United States, closed his eyes, and pointed at a random spot on the map. Then BAM! Here we are." Lexa explained.

"Wow, here in Hawkins. I don't even believe in fate or anything like that but I mean, it's gotta be something like that." Steve stated.

"Something like that." Lexa repeated, smiling softly. Maybe Hawkins wasn't so bad. You know, except for the aliens and monsters.

Lexa glanced at the clock on her car, it read, 1:46 A.M.

"Shit. It's getting pretty late, I'll start driving us home." Lexa said.

She turned in her carseat and put on her seatbelt, reversing out of the McDonald's parking lot.

Lexa pulled into a driveway of a nice house, it almost looked like a mansion.

"This is you, right?" Lexa asked.

"Yeah. Um, Lexa, thank you, for everything tonight." Steve said.

"No problem." Lexa smiled.

Steve got out of the car and pushed the car door.

"Good night, King Steve." Lexa giggled.

"Good night, Sunshine." Steve responded.

With that, Lexa drove away. Smiling to herself, she figured Steve wasn't the worst friend to have in Hawkins.
