THE BEDROOM WAS STILL DARK WHEN EVE woke up, rubbing her eyes as she adjusted to the obvious missing person in the room, Timothée's shape still indented into the sheets. She turned over and checked her phone, it was four a.m. and she felt like she had been asleep maybe forty minutes max. Eve put her phone back down and rolled over to her original spot, now laying up and facing the ceiling. Last night had felt like a dream in the best way possible.
The bathroom door opened and closed, light footsteps coming around on the other side of the bed and the bed shifting with the weight. "Eve?" His soft voice whispered next to her. "You up?"
She blinked, turning to see Timothée's face, illuminated by the light pollution from New York City, but somehow still so beautiful. "Yeah, I'm alright. Woke up from a weird dream."
"Wanna tell me about it?" He asked, adjusting himself and seeing if Eve would accept the arms that wanted to wrap themselves around her. She obliged, scooting herself into his protective arms, one of his hands running through her hair while she pieced together her dream.
"I was in an apartment building, and every floor looked the same. Not like in an apartment building way, but in a way to like throw people off, if you get my gist." She started, her eyes closing while she continued. "Green and white striped walls, and it felt so claustrophobic on each level, with only about 6 doors and they were all near the elevator, which was what I was traveling on. But I was being chased by this weird old man who had a big ass knife, and I was trying to find a place to hide but I couldn't get out."
Timothée didn't say anything, simply listened to her and occasionally tapping her on the arm when she would become silent for too long. She didn't realize how shaken she was from the dream until she told him the whole story. "He was apparently a cannibal, and you and I were investigating a case that may have had to do with him- we didn't know he was a cannibal until we got there, but you stayed in the car while I got stuck being chased in this freaky ass building."
"I was there?" Timmy asked groggily.
She hummed in response, "Yeah, but I never really saw you, it would just be us talking to each other on the walkie-talkie."
"If that was real life I would have gone in with you," He replied.
"Well, thankfully it wasn't real life, but I'm glad because the dream ended up with me getting... caught by him." She didn't say anything after that, they both knew what the ending was of the dream. "Anyway, so that's why I was awake and all sweaty. Sorry about that, must be fun to be covered with your new girlfriend's sweat."
Timmy lightly chuckled, but pulled her in tighter. "It's okay. I just like you being here."
She adjusted herself in his hold, now straddling him and facing him in the dark, not being able to make out his distinct features, but she could see his sparkling eyes and exhausted smile. Hesitantly, she ran a hand over his cheek, delicately tracing his features, from his cheekbones down to his jaw, then placing a small kiss on his nose. Her hands found themselves tangled in his hair again, never getting over his beautiful curls and the fact she could play with them whenever, something her high school self would only dream of. "I love you," She whispered to him in the moonlight, running her fingers through his hair.
She could easily see his smile, his teeth shining as he let out a small laugh, "Eve, I love you so much." He said, his hands moving from her waist up to her face, cupping her cheeks to place a tender kiss on her lips. He squished her cheeks, "You're so precious to me, I hope you know that."
Eve nodded, her head still between his slender hands. She didn't know what to say, so over the moon with the fact that this was her reality still. This was her life. "God, I love you," She said again, hoping he knew what that reply meant. He seemed to have understood, smiling to himself as his hands found her waist again, his lips finding her neck and placing small kisses down her neck and collarbone.
