"Y/n! Hello sweetheart, how are you? Have you settled in yet?"
"Getting there, Gram. Got all my furniture in and set up, gonna finally attempt to put my clothes away later."
David had gone home about an hour ago, it was the early evening now and you decided to start sifting through the items in the box as well as tidy up the old radio. You cleaned it of dust and had moved it out into your living room for the time being, planning on keeping it and perhaps restoring it if it were possible to do so.
The sun was beginning to set outside, painting the sky with pinks and oranges that faded to the lingering blue opposing side of the horizon. It was gorgeous, 'the golden hour' as it was known as at work because of the gentle natural lighting. And the way it cascaded through the trees outside like sheets of warm light made it look all the more enchanting. You wanted to be outside on the front porch enjoying it, but you couldn't procrastinate unpacking anymore. Another day of doing nothing would slowly drive you bonkers.
"You didn't buy that lamp where the stand looks like a skeleton torso that you showed us a picture of, did you?" She asked, suspicion looming in her voice.
You bit your lip as you looked over at the exact lamp over by the wall next to the couch. Your house was beginning to adopt a more gothic vibe, which made it feel a bit homey to you.
Hehe. "Nah." You lied, smirking to yourself. "So, I have a question. I was looking about in the attic earlier and I came across a bunch of stuff, it seems pretty old. I was wondering if you knew anything about that?""Oh that's fun! What sort of stuff?"
You gently sorted through the items in the box, briefly inspecting each thing that you came across. "A few fancy shaped glass bottles, a box of matches, a pocket watch, mostly miscellaneous things. There's also this old looking radio..."
"I..." she trailed off as she thought for a moment, you continued to stare at the large antique in front of where you sat. Your fingers mindlessly tracing the grooves in the wood, brought back a bit by how much cooler it was in temperature compared to the rest of the items. You figured it was a lingering cold from being in the attic. "I don't know anything about that, hun. Nothing we would know about."
You noticed something down at the bottom, it was the manufacturing date etched into the wood. "It says '1930, New Orleans, Louisiana'. Someone lugged this thing from all the way in New Orleans?"
"Is there a name?"
"A. Ambrose?" You read, looking closely at the other trinkets you noticed it was faintly scrawled on most of them as well. "Seems to be written on a handful of things."
"How bizarre, nobody of the name Ambrose ever rented from us. Perhaps a maiden name, or belonged to a friend of the previous owners and never gave it back."
