"They what?!"

Alastor sneered at his shadow, his eyes flickering between radio dials and his natural ruby and crimson color. His shadow had inconspicuously nudged Alastor's attention and urged him to speak in private. Right now the two were currently in the privacy of your bedroom while you were enjoying the party. He was fuming at the news. What gave Charlie and Vaggie the audacity to even try to go through his belongings? His office? His personal and private space?

"They were snooping..." his shadow signed. "But they didn't find anything. The veil was still working well, they couldn't decipher any written language or find any hints to your ties here."

"Unbelievable." The buck grumbled. He pinched the bridge of his nose with his index finger and thumb in agitation, annoyance and just a dash of paranoia. "I want to make sure they didn't stumble upon anything they shouldn't have."

"I'm almost certain that they didn't."

"Rather be safe than sorry."

"Hun?" You called out from behind the door, knocking gently before entering and shutting the door behind you. What you saw was somewhat... startling.

Alastor's living appearance was gone and before you stood a very disgruntled deer demon. His smile wide, but, not at all happy. His eyes, you could have sworn they looked different for a second... But when you blinked they looked like that familiar assortment of red. His antlers looked a bit sharper as well, an inch or two longer and more prominent. His shadow turned to look at you and immediately sunk into the floor, becoming one with it's master, while Alastor fixed his composure and moved his gaze onto you.

"You good?" You asked hesitantly.

"Darling..." he stated. His voice was thick with radio interference, it slowly dwindled down to its typical amount of filter as he cleared his throat and continued speaking." I have something I need to attend to back home, it will only take a moment."

"Is everything okay?" You wondered as you looked up at him with concern.

"If anyone asks, I am in here sleeping off the booze and am not to be disturbed." He said, not answering your question. You furrowed a brow at his serious tone and sudden sense of slight urgency.

"Al, is everything okay?" You asked again, a bit more slowly.

"I'm not sure yet." He smiled tightly and inhaled before he answered with a huff. "I'll be back shortly."

"Okay but-" before you could even finish your sentence Alastor had disappeared into a cloud of thick black smoke, revealing that he had vanished as soon as the tuft of smog had cleared. You sighed with discontent, before shrugging your shoulders and going back out to enjoy the party with your friends. All the while trying to mask the twinge of worry you felt.

"Charlie, Vaggie!" Alastor chirped, appearing at the end of the hall. Deliberately blocking the two from approaching the elevator as he manifested in front of them. His demeanor was calm, with such nonchalance that it was eerie. It was better to act as though he knew nothing, it would only add to their growing suspicion if they suspected he was there because he knew. After all, if he had nothing to hide, why would he be on the look out for people trespassing in his office?

"O-oh!! Hey, Al!" Charlie squeaked, trying to hide the worried chuckle that slipped past her lips without her consent. "You're never here this late."

"I left something in my office and came to retrieve it." He lied, his grin widening. "Script for tomorrow's broadcast, sort of need it, you know how it is. What are you two up to? Making your last rounds about the premises before heading off to bed, I presume?"
