That family, unit of four, the Reeds. They came to Pandora when their youngest was 17 and the avatar program was new. And here, she is 19.
"How is she?" Her father pressed his hand to the glass of the silent room. Inside, was a nearly Na'vi body. Comprised of 80% Na'vi genes to his daughter's 20% human genes.
"She'll be fine, she hasn't transferred yet. It will take some time since she's never trained for it." The tech said hesitantly. Not to insult her, but her mind may not be built for this.
They watched closely as the body began to stir. The hollow sounds of an uncomfortable voice came from her chest. They looked closer as she pulled herself up, too bright to open her eyes yet. Her eyelids twitched until they fluttered open at the men.
Red. Bright crimson optic pupils staring right at them.
It frightened them at first, but it's just her dark brown eyes in the Na'vi form.
"How do you feel?"
"Tired, as always, but otherwise, I want to get up and move." She tried pushing herself off the table with a smile, but soon found that this new body was uncoordinated, not ready to move yet.
"Baby steps, songbird." Her sister echoed her nickname from the door of the avatar sized room. She had been using her avatar months before Sanui got hers.
———————————"Don't you think it's weird that you're married to another official of the RDA?" Sanui asked her sister.
"Well, yes, but also no. He's not just an RDA member to me, he gets me. And it's odd that I found him here." Haukea had been married to Alan Carter for over a year now, he's the head of Na'vi research in needle hills.
"When or if we go home, I hope I find someone too, dating people here sucks."
"Why's that?"
"They're weenies and nerds. Weenies, marines. Nerds, Alan."
"Yeah, you got me there." Kea chuckled. She patted her sister's back as they overlooked the Meitayolo' clan.
They were a tenacious bunch. Hard working, primarily vegan, borderline agricultural. But they weren't rigid. They were free and lively. They're modest and kindhearted. They were what Mele needed and they gave her a new name, a new lifestyle, an escape from the rigidity of life writhing the compound's walls.
————————————Out of breath, I'm out of breath, I can't breathe. I tuned out the desperate calls of the young and unassuming and I curl up.
No matter how I cover my ears, I still hear their terror, their lasting screams, the sound of their bodies being ripped apart by bullets. The cries of the living.
It only got worse.
They set fire to the clan's lands with missiles and explosives. They did this all because Kea went missing after the schools had been attacked.
Not only that but Alan was missing too. He doesn't even have an avatar. Both my sister's avatar and her human body went missing. Over an hour of footage from the school was wiped since the RDA had to cover up their atrocities. She must have used it as cover to get out. But why would she leave me here with all this to deal with?
