My heart sunk. It was Heather.
"We need to talk Emily" I heard her say. "I think you're making a huge mistake"
"Heather, leave, now" I could nearly see the flames steaming off of Emily.
"No, listen to me, I want you and I know you want me too" Heather huffed.
I could hear Emily talking but it was at a much softer volume now. I decided to move a bit closer.
"Heather, can we please talk about this later?"
"why?"
"I need time ok"
She needs 'time' I thought to myself. Time for what? And why in the hell would they be talking about it later? They exchanged a few more words and Heather left. I ran back and was sitting on the edge of the bed when Emily walked in.
"sorry" she said quietly.
"Why was she here?" I asked.
"I don't know, just having a hard time with the breakup I guess"
"And you?"
"what do you mean?" she replied defensively.
"Are you having a hard time with the break up?" I repeated.
"What? Y/n, that's a crazy question"
"It's a yes or no" my pulse sped up and I could feel my chest tighten.
"Are you serious?"
"Just answer the question Emily" I snapped.
"I don't know"
I nodded my head and stood up.
"I'm gonna call Morgan" I said quietly. "I'll have him come pick me up"
"Y/n, what? No, can we please just-"
"Emily" I warned. "just don't, ok" I said in a much softer, more depleted tone.
Emily stood in her bedroom doorway and I waited by the window, watching for Morgan."
After about ten minutes I saw headlights. Not bothering to say goodbye, I slammed the door behind me.
The crisp air hit my face and the tears started to fall. I felt so stupid and naive. I should've known better. But, here I was. Right where I didn't want to be.
"Alex?" I asked as I climbed into the passenger seat.
"Hey" she smiled softly.
"Where's Morgan?"
"He wasn't really in any position to drive so they sent me instead, hope that's ok"
"Yeah, of course" I nodded nervously.
She pulled out of the driveway and I gave her my address. After five minutes of silence she broke the ice.
"You don't have to answer this, but you seem really upset, so what happened?"
"Um, I just, the thing is, I-" I stopped myself and buried my face in my hands. "Listen, I just got involved in a situation I had no business being involved in." I said plainly.
Alex nodded silently as we approached my apartment.
"thanks for the ride" I smiled, but as I was getting out she turned off the car. I shot her a confused look.
"I just want to make sure you get in alright."
I rolled my eyes and started in. Once we reached my door I unlocked it and stepped inside.
"See, made it" I teased.
"Alright, well, goodnight Agent Y/L/N" and with a smile she turned and walked away. I sighed as I shut my door.
"What have you gotten yourself into" I muttered to myself as I turned on the lights. I was ready for the night to be over, so I wasted no time getting ready for bed.
Next Day at the BAU:
"alright crime fighters, we've got another serial in Wichita. And, like they all are, it's not good."
Penelope briefed us on the case and before I knew it we were in Kansas.
"Alright Morgan, Prentiss and Y/n, go to talk to the M.E. I guess there's some pretty perplexing aspects about the COD. and-"
"Would it be ok if I checked out the crime scene?" I asked. Usually, I would never second guess Hotch's decision but I just didn't want to sit with Emily. It was all too fresh.
"yes that's fine" he quickly dismissed. "Rossi and JJ I'll have you start talking to the victims families, Reid I want to start building a geographical profile, and Blake, you can tag along with Y/L/N."
We all went our separate ways and I was ready to put all my energy into catching another rat faced son of a bitch.
"Why didn't you want to go see the M.E.?" Alex asked as I drove to the most recent crime scene.
"Wasn't in the mood"
"I didn't realize there was a mood to be in to see a corpse" she chuckled and I let out a laugh too.
"Well, as it turns out there is and I'm simply not in it right now" I teased back.
"fair enough"
Once we arrived, there were reporters, neighbors, cops, I'm pretty sure I might have seen a damn circus clown, everyone was there.
"This place is more crowded than the girl in red concert I went to" Alex leaned in and whispered to me.
Girl in red? GIRL IN RED!
I widened my eyes,
"so you like girl in red?" I asked, my voice going up an octave.
"I'm pretty sure you have to in order to get your official lesbian ID"
I cracked up and we both looked like lunatics, laughing at crime scene.
"Agents Blake and Y/L/N" a tall black haired woman called out from about ten feet in front of us.
"are you fucking kidding me" I huffed under my breath. Emily was standing talking to the lead detective.
"I thought you were going to the M.E.'s office" I said sounding annoyed.
"Hotch changed his mind, said he wanted me here"
"Hotch doesn't 'change his mind'" I laughed out.
I heard Alex let out a little chuckle as we made our way over to the lead detective.
"I don't what the hell went down here but it wasn't good and it was by no means clean." detective Rogers said.
We all kind of shot each other a look of concern before entering the house. It was terrible.
And as we were finishing up our walk through, I got a phone call.
"They need you back at the station now, I guess Hotch has a problem" Penelope chimed over the phone.
"Guys, we've gotta go" I called to Blake and Prentiss.
"We'll meet you there" Blake nodded to Prentiss and Emily shot me a look.
"Y/n, I actually have to talk to you, would you mind riding back with me?" Emily asked softly.
Blake looked at me and I froze for a brief moment.
"Uh, sure" I gave Blake a solemn look before walking over to Emilys car.
Before I could even pull my door closed, Emily sped off.
"What the hell" I barked.
She stayed silent and kept driving.
"Emily!"
She suddenly took a sharp turn.
"Emily the stations that way" I pointed.
"We're taking a detour"
