Tobias didn't sleep. He felt tired but he just couldn't bring himself to close his eyes to rest. He felt awkward being in someone else's home, and despite Kushina clearly inviting him to the home he doesn't really feel all that invited. And you want to know why that is?
The Hokage. The Hokage is terrifying. Both Minato and Kushina we're scary in there own ways. Kushina having a short fuse and the Hokage being able to threaten someone without anyone noticing.
He doesn't know if anyone saw this yesterday when they were in the Hokage tower, but the glare that Tobias received from the Hokage was definitely a threat.
Tobias is completely understanding when it comes to why he was threatened in the first place. He technically kidnapped his child and now in his home without his supervision, and with his loved ones. "Yea... Perhaps I deserve the threat."
Understanding why the Hokage threatened him in the first place doesn't make him any less scary. He is a man with a lot of power, a capable Shinobi, and has his own nickname to go along with his terror. The yellow flash of the leaf. Tobias didn't really know why he was called that. But it was perhaps the custom Kunai he always had that supported the name.
Tobias sighed. What also makes the Hokage a little scarier is the fact that an Anbu has been watching him this entire time. Tobias decided that he wasn't going to stay in the house. That would probably make the Hokage a little happier. Maybe.
Tobias opened the door and made sure to lock it behind him. He doesn't have a key but he doesn't exactly plan to come back to the house until Kushina is wide awake, for real this time and not being pumped with adrenaline.
Tobias wasn't necessarily surprised when the Anbu continued to follow him. If he is seen as such a threat, why not lock him up? He of course would prefer not to be locked up, but what's the point. "Why go through so much trouble to keep an eye on me?"
Finally Tobias stopped. The Anbu was good at hiding his chakra, when he wasn't moving Tobias could hardly notice him. But there is a flaw in everyone. When he moves his chakra nerves rise and it's like he is getting a thrill out of being stealthy. Not exactly Anbu material.
Tobias looked in the direction of the Anbu. He was tired of pretending he didnt know he was there. The damp night would end soon and he was getting bored. One of his eyes could see the man despite the darkness and the other could not.
Finally the Anbu jumped down. He was wearing a mask. It was wolf? Tobias couldn't really tell.
There was a long silence between the two. Neither of them knew what to say. The Anbu probably didn't want to speak. And Tobias was trained not to speak unless spoken to.
"Tobias, right?" The Anbu's voice was quiet. Tobias nodded. The man took off his mask surprising Tobias in the process.
Why would he do that?
"My name is..." He trailed off. "Yamato." Tobias knew immediately the name was fake, but so was his, he wouldn't demand the mans real name when he couldn't even provide his own.
Tobias waited for the man to continue. "I heard from Kushina that you know wood style." Tobias nodded. Yamato seemed taken aback that Tobias said yes.
"I wouldn't say I'm shabby with it." Yamato began. "This guy has wood style as well? Kushina said something about that right?" Tobias didn't ask his questions out loud. But nodded in response.
"I have never seen Wood style that wasn't my own." Yamato finally finished with a sigh.
"Wait was this guy sent by the Hokage or not?"
"So you want to see my wood style? It's by no means refined in any way." Tobias said with interest. Yamato nodded. Tobias shrugged.
He held his hand out and almost immediately spiked branches etched their way to Yamato but stopped a couple feet short. Yamato looked at the branches with wide eyes.
"Do you make it purposely spikey?" Yamato asked. Tobias raised an eyebrow. "No?" Yamato held out his own hand and a block of wood came out. It's so neat compared to Tobias's.
"They are different?" Yamato shrugged. "Apparently." They both detached the wood from their hands. "Do you know why yours is so spikey?" Yamato finally asked.
Tobias shrugged. "When I use wood style the spikes either come from me or the ground. And it aims for a living animal or person. In a way it has a mind of its own." Yamato hummed in response. "Mine doesn't really aim for anything. It's weight is what controls it." Tobias nodded.
He didn't know how long he was talking but the sun was up in the sky. He doesn't recall the last time he was able to talk to someone like this. Much less about a common interest.
"What are you doing?" A voice sounded behind Tobias. Yamato's eyes widened before he bowed slightly.
Tobias backed away. It was the Hokage. "You had a shift and missed it." Minato looked between Tobias and Yamato. Then to the ground.
The ground was covered with wood of various sizes and shapes. "Ohh." Minato grinned.
"You were curious about his wood style!" He laughed when Yamato put on his mask. "You know, I was kinda wondering if you really had wood style." Minato said to Tobias. Minato studied the wood on the ground.
"The spiked ones are yours?" Tobias nodded. Minato rubbed his chin.
"Do you know how you acquired wood style?" Tobias thought for a moment. "No sir." Minato nodded at the response. He was most likely aware of Tobias's amnesia.
"Well, I suppose this was good timing anyway. I wanted to talk to you about something." Minato was no longer Minato, now he was the Hokage. No laughs or smiles would escape his mouth.
It was all business now. And that made Tobias's stomach churn.
