When Obito got back to the leaf village he went through the main gates. It looked like the security was tightened but yet they didn't seem to take notice of Obito. Obito was curious about the security but he figured it was best to not snoop around. He doesn't exactly want to be seen as a bad guy. Especially if this village truly was his home.
Obito walked around trying to figure out what might have been familiar with him but nothing stood out. Nothing gave him a sense of familiarity and comfort like it would have when he was younger.
As important as it is, he is considered dead. He had been pronounced dead. His gravestone lies somewhere around here. He want's to talk to his old teammates about his true identity, but he is afraid it will hurt them.
He doesn't know them. They are in every way complete strangers to him. He would feel no remorse for their woes. Perhaps he might feel bad, but that's it.
He was about to turn a corner when he heard talking. It was the Hokage, and someone else.
He never purposely snoops. But it's just something that is instinct at this point. He didn't stay long to hear the full conversation, he has other things to deal with and to see.
But it was talking of the bases. The invasion plan and the people involved with the kidnappings or the victims. He must have finally gotten a leader from another village to come. It's reassuring to hear but he didn't want to be caught snooping, especially by the Hokage.
So he took his leave.
He figured to stop by the graveyard. Try to find his name somewhere engraved on one of the headstones. It was just curiosity that brought him there. He wanted to see when he 'died'.
He couldn't blame them for believing he was dead, if he was crushed by a boulder then that would be a plausible excuse to believe one is dead. But the real question is, how would he survive that?
He walked by the graves for a long time, looking at every individual that gave their lives in different ways for the village.
Some civilians, some Shinobi and some neither. It really does show the villages kindness to bury ninja that aren't even from the leaf. But regardless there isn't many.
Obito finally stops. He see his grave and he is standing in front of it. It has somewhat wilted flowers. It only said his name and the day he was born and 'died'. It doesn't have a little sentence saying who he was as a person.
He wants to ask someone. but suddenly finding out someone that you thought to be dead to be alive... It's not exactly a pleasant experience for either sides.
And... Obito doesn't know those who knew him. He has no recollection of any of them.
"What are you doing here?" A voice sounded behind him. Obito looked away from the grave and turned to see what would have been his old team. Kushina held flowers. How nice of her.
"I dunno." Obito shrugged. It was frustrating. They seemed to care about him. So much as to leave flowers on his grave even several years after he died. But not a single memory lies with any of them. Not a single one. Not even one where they might have just greeted him.
"I was wondering the headstones." Obito decided that was his reasoning. Not exactly lying it's just not the whole truth. But perhaps the truth will come out soon anyway.
The brown haired girl frowned. "You keep popping in one place then another." She said with a sigh. Obito shrugged.
"Sorry." Minato said while the group approached Obito, or who they thought was Tobias.
Obito didn't respond. "It's just been a lot lately." Minato began. Obito shook his head. "Do not try to justify your actions. I'm going to be honest, I really just don't care." Minato was taken aback by the brute honesty. But he seemed relieved the situation was over with.
Even though he tried to justify it, it's not entirely wrong. He is the Hokage, it is his duty to be alert at all times.
Kushina set the flowers down and looked back at Obito.
Before Kushina could start speaking Obito began. "I went back to the base." They didn't speak they wanted Obito to continue.
"Bee and the children that were there are dead. Whoever was in charge of that base killed them or Bee killed the children then himself." Obito avoided eye contact. But he could feel the anger radiating off of the Hokage.
"I planned to look around at old documents. And with no one there, I did just that." Obito was silent for a moment.
It was too late to back out of the topic now.
"What are the documents?" Minato asked. Kushina looked appalled by Minato's butting in but didn't say anything, she too was curious as well.
Obito nodded. "Identity's of the children and workers. Missions, mission requests, people affiliated with the funding of the base and so on."
Minato nodded slowly. "I see." Minato was stuck in his own thoughts before Obito spoke again.
"Obito." They all seemed surprised by the sudden name of their old 'dead' friend.
"That is his headstone." Kushina nodded then looked at Tobias. "Did his name pop up while you were looking through the documents?" Kakashi was about to speak but Obito interrupted.
"Yes." Kushina face scrunched into a worried expression. Obito took the piece of paper put.
"I was looking for my own name. I knew there was a document on myself and I searched for it, and I found it." Kushina's face turned slightly paler. She understood what Obito was saying but she didn't quite believe it yet.
Obito looked to the ground. "I am Obito." The girl who was standing there inhaled sharply.
"How do you know?" Her eyes were starting to get puffy.
"I am the only one in that base that was ever an Uchiha. And I have the scars to prove that I was crushed by a boulder."
Kakashi looked angry but didn't express it with his words. "But I saw you get crushed. How would you survive something like that? Half of your body was crushed, And that would partially include your heart." Minato seemed to have been thinking the same thing.
"All my organs are displaced none reside near where my heart would be." Kakashi stared at Obito with wide eyes.
"But who did that?" Kushina finally said. Her voice shook but she didn't cry.
Obito looked at her. "I'm afraid I'm no different than the rest of the children." Kushina looked at him with sad eyes.
"I do not remember anything or anyone." Minato's eyes widened.
A deep burning rage just erupted.
