Onika POV

"They don't see the tears I cry, the fears I hide. Tend to keep my cares inside, it's merely pride." – Nicki Minaj

"Easy Maraj... Get a good look at the valve first before you proceed with that stich." Dr. Jenkins coached behind me. We were finally wrapping up an emergency heart valve repair.

To say that I was ecstatic about being back in the operating room after two years would not serve me any justice. I was so grateful for Dr. Jenkins to put his trust in me—he allowed me to do my first solo surgery just two days off orientation. My other colleagues were big mad—especially this chick name Megan Pete.

From the day I met her she proved to be an overachieving, ghetto ass Houston chick. She was a spoiled daddy's girl with daddy's big money to prove it. Her father was one of the greatest NFL neurosurgeons, so she had a reputation to uphold. But she always made it clear that she does not like me. She would give me dirty stares and always make smart little remarks every time I answered a question. But only if this bitch knew the nice ole' Nicki was gone--- I would beat your ass now and ask questions later.

Wait—I did that to Cardi already... God rest her soul.

I completed the last stich then looked up at Dr. Jenkins for approval. "Good job Maraj, allow one of your colleagues to close. Get a good night's rest you did well today."

"Thank you, Dr. Jenkins." I quickly doffed my ppe and exited the O.R to wash up.

Once I was done, I skipped to the locker room, before I could open the door it swung open revealing Lauren. She had not spoken to me in over a week—when she came by, she came only to see papa and would completely ignore my pleas for us to talk. I was not about to kiss Lauren's ass either, don't get me wrong the comment I made about Ermias was definelty out of line—but her ignoring me was completely childish.

I excused myself walking around her—she scoffed closing the door leaving me alone.

When I got to my locker, I gathered up all my belongings, ensuring that my gun was tucked in a reachable area of my purse. When I closed the locker, I almost had a full panic attack, I had to grab onto the bench nearby to regulate my breathing. This weird bitch was standing behind my locker door all that time waiting for it to close.

"Is you having a panic attack or something? And why you got a gun?" Megan said standing over me.

I felt like my lungs were shrinking and this bitch was standing over me smirking. I closed my eyes in attempt to control my flight or fight senses. Once I got that under control, I stood up slowly grabbing my bag. When I stepped around her, she stepped in front of me.

"Bitc---." I took a quick breath and said a quick prayer to God. "Megan please get out my way."

"Girl what you so uptight for? You running from somebody?" Megan busted out laughing like shit was funny. I quickly moved past her heading to the door.

"Onika I was joking—I'm sorry. I just came to ask you how the surgery went; I honestly did not mean to scare you." She said walking up behind me.

"It was fine Megan..."

"Mhmmm..." She stared at me inquisitively. "Dr. Jenkins sure do have a lot of love for you... I think it's unfair for someone who hasn't touched a heart in two years suddenly gets the chance at her own solo surgery."

"Bitc—what are you trying to say?"

Megan stepped closer in my personal space; my hand found it way in my bag resting comfortably on top of gun.
