7 pm on the 29th of August, Emma lay on her bed reading up some more on 'The Elites' when her phone began to buzz.
Ed Sheeran's Bad Habits played on as she delayed picking it. Eyes fixated on the new piece of information she found.
"Oliver Asher. Hmmm?"
Finally drifting her attention to her phone-
"Rosie!"
She quickly answered the call.
"Yes? Rosie. Rosie? Yes?" Her voice sounded frantic and uncertain.
"Emma chill out. Yes, it's me Rosie. Your One And Only Bestie For Life. Now I'm sure someone missed me."
She giggled on the other end.
"So we're going to play a little game. Can you guess where I am right this instant?"
"Rosie you know I don't like guessing games."
"Just try Emma."
"Ok. . . You should be getting your things ready for tomorrow's flight, so- probably your accommodation in New York?"
"Good guess but no. Try again," Rosie said trying to contain her excitement.
"I really can't. Just tell me already."
"Ok. Ok. I'll speak." She paused for a brief moment to squeal internally.
"I'm back Emma!!!"
"What did you say?" Emma's voice was followed by a deafening silence.
She just sat there. So lost in thought that she didn't hear Rosie call her name. Over and over.
"I said I'm back. Emma, are you there? My plane just landed so I'm still at the airport."
"But I thought the flight was scheduled for tomorrow morning." Emma finally responded being brought back to the present by Rosie's excited high-pitched voice.
"Well things moved around a bit and now I'm here. Aren't you excited as well?"
Emma, once again went silent for a few seconds before speaking.
"I am. Very. But-"
"But what Em? You don't sound happy at all or shouldn't I have called?"
"No! No. I mean- It's just that I had planned to go to the airport to pick you up tomorrow- That's all. Was gonna plan a whole surprise. Bring flowers, maybe a marching band." She giggled knowing Rosie would love it if she ever goes through with it.
"Really. That's just it. Nothing's wrong. At all."
She somehow ended up sounding convincing so Rosie decided to drop it with hopes that nothing was up..
"So when can we see? Should I come to the airport now? I mean I'm on my way." Emma announced hurriedly getting off her bed and heading for the door oblivious of the fact that she was only putting on her Hello Kitty pyjamas.
"Now? No freaking way. You don't have to do that. After all, we're going to see later tonight. Ahh! I just sighted Mum and Dad." Rosie went silent to wave at them.
"Really? Are you sure? I'm already dressed though."
"You? Dressed? By this time? If that ever were to be true, I'd say you've been replaced by an alien or some strange human-like species. Lemme guess. You're probably in your Hello Kitty jammies by now getting ready for bed. Either that or you're doing some late-night studying. Did I get it a hundred per cent this time or like ninety-nine?" Rosie giggled as Emma on the other end paused to realize.
