Eliza's POV
Standing by the gate everything looked normal. It was quiet...too quiet. Jessica and I walked further up the school pavement and began looking for the others. The school was mostly clear and it felt like there was only two people there. It felt early but we knew it was the right time...8:30.
Everyday for the last two years we all met at 8:30am. Everyday we met by the gate and walked into school together. Only after would we separate to our tutors. No sooner no later. Yet today, unusually it was just me, Jessica and the whistling of the wind.
"Where are they?" Jessica asks almost frustrated.
I shrug and walk slightly further on. Still it felt...deserted...blank!
For a while longer I stood with confusion peering out onto an unrecognised school. We stood there and waited before shouting and screaming burst out echoing over to our ears.
Without thought I begin sprinting. At first I didn't know where but as soon as the thudding of angry footsteps began to come closer and closer I turned right. And by right I mean right into the door. Jessica follows. I open my eyes and stare up at the sky only to realise that next to me lies Jessica rubbing her head.
I heave myself up and put my arm out to give a hand to Jessica. This time we open the door into the ICT block. Behind us we lock the door and slide against it. We inhale the air to get our breath back but we still can't breathe from the shock. We were chased by the anonymous. The reason was unknown...something was wrong....
"What...was...that?" Jessica pants helplessly.
"Something new...unusually new!" I replied with confidence.
For a while we sit there and begin analysing the days beginning. And what and eventful beginning it was. Something told me we should just leave but if the others were somewhere in the building we couldn't just leave them.
"What should we do?" I blurt out startling Jessica.
For a moment she stays silent probably using her initiative to find an easy solution. I look at her with eagerness when her face lights up for a few second but as her expression fades so does mine.
"Elz, I don't know, I really don't know." She stutters almost embarrassed that she didn't know how to solve it.
I nod and bite my lip. I was scared and I was helpless. I couldn't think of anything sometimes I couldn't talk let alone make up some master plan.
"It...doesn't...matter..." I whisper to myself slightly too loudly.
I see guilt flooding into Jessica's face and I bite my lip harder. Now I was guilty.
After countless minutes of awkward silence the bell rings and suddenly a bustle of students burst down the stairs and outside. Jessica instantly jumps up and heaves me to my feet.
"Come on!" She squeals whilst trying to drag me outside.
"We can't get in anymore danger!" I remind her trying to prevent anymore drama for another day.
"So what!? We need to know...I NEED TO KNOW!" She persuades me and I see curiosity flood into her bright green eyes.
I sigh then allow her to drag me into the misty morning.
The wind bites hard on my cheeks as it thrashes against my cheeks. The rain begins to pelt down on us but still I don't avoid it...I follow. The students in front of us remain silent so we copy trying not to drag any attention to ourselves. I begin to peer around at my surrounding's still not being able to believe that any of this was at the school, at my school.
'Please god let this be a dream'
I pray hoping to wake up in a panic under my silk sheets. Anything sounded better than not knowing where the five other parts of you were...the five other parts that were everything to me. I pinch my arm with strength hoping to suddenly open my eyes in a familiar environment but instead pain shoots through my arm and squint with pain.
I look further into the distance until I notice something extremely out of the ordinary. Camouflaged uniform...not school uniform. I leap into tip-toes and manage to see the tips of black metal; guns. I nudge Jessica and point and her eyes pounce onto the men I saw.
"Guns...!" She whispers nervously.
I press my finger to my lips to tell her to shut up and she gets the clue.
'We can't talk here, not now'
I mouth to her rather unclearly but I still get it across. We continue walking to the sound of shuffling footsteps and don't say another word. It can all be explained later...by a face I seemed to recognize.
