Luz pov
I was running from the police car. Jared and Carter ditched me yet again, leaving me the only one being chased. I knew my motorcycle could get me out of here, but these people were really catching up to me. "Stop in the name of the law!" I smirked, "As if I would let you catch me." I said, looking back, not bothering to look in front of me. When I finally did, I had to make an immediate stop, making me fly off my bike.
I knew I had skinned the side of my back and shoulder, and I felt the sting as I tried to get up and run for my bike, but I was forced down by one of the cops. "Well looky here what we have gentleman, the little menace from a month ago," one of the cops said as the other grabbed my motorcycle and forced me to fight."Get your hands off that," I yelled the sheriff who had spoken first, looking at my bike, "what are you hiding inside it?" He said, yanking my hair and making me wince, "Check the bike." I tried to lash out against the man that held me, "No don't touch my bike with your filthy cop hands." I said, filled with venom. This made some of them turn to me and ask, "What's so important about a bike?" What are you hiding? You got drugs on you? " I shook my head no, "It was my dad's, so just don't touch it. I'll go with you, just leave the bike alone." I felt the man who was holding my arms loosen his grip and go to his walkie talkie, "Get a tow truck to take the bike to the station with no scratches." I smiled slightly yet the sheriff just scowled, yanking my arm and placing me in the car until we made it to the familiar place.
I ducked my head down, "Hey Luz." I smiled a bit, "Hey Taylor." They were the only people here that understood me and were nice to me, but not enough to lose their job. "What did you do this time?" "Actually this time I didn't do anything, the rest of the gang just happened to show up at the wrong time," I said as they took the cuffs off me, making me rub my wrist from the discomfort. "You're most likely doomed," they laughed some, I didn't. They patted my back, making me wince a bit, "Oh, sorry, are you injured?" I shrugged, "I was flown off my bike, so probably."
They nodded, "You just need to get away from those people, even if you're only hanging out with them to get closer to Audrey." My face went red at the sound of her name, "Hey! I thought you said you wouldn't tease me about her Taylor! " They put their hands up in a defensive move. I sighed, knowing they were right. I changed my whole life trying to please a girl who only looked my way once before I became this delinquent. I was the school nerd, read Azura books and never once dared fight anyone, but when I saw her, everything changed.
The door flung open I was tense to see my mom standing there, her face red with anger. "Thank you, Taylor" I said as they closed the door, making my mom nod.
I sighed, getting ready to have the chancla thrown at me, but to my surprise, she was on her phone making a call. "Uh mom, what are you doing?" She shushed me, making me curious when she put that serious yet bubbly voice she always did when taking to someone. "Hi is Mrs. Whispers there?" It didn't take long before she was talking again. "Hey, Eda. It's me, Camila. Do you remember that offer we made?" My heart started to beat. What offer? She nodded yes, "Well, I've had my last straw and she's coming to live with you and Rayne." I now spoke, "Do what?"
She gave me that 'I'm on the phone, shut up look' "we'll be there around 6 or so, Eda, have a great rest of your day." She hung up the phone and sighed, putting her fingers on the bridge of her nose. She sighed again. I can't keep coming to a police station to get you out of trouble. I told you if you didn't straighten up I would make the decisions for you." I sighed, feeling tears fill my eyes. "But why send me away? I'm your kid for God sakes! I don't even know those people!"
She turned away like she did whenever we got into a disagreement, letting me know that she was listening but still not looking into my eyes. It was like she couldn't bare to see my face. "Eda and I go way back. She will take care of you and keep you in line. It's either I send you there or I have to see you behind bars and I'd rather not see you that way."
I felt my world crashing down on me. I smirked, "You leave tomorrow morning" I smirked, "And I actually thought that I could rely on the only person who cares about me." I said, slamming my door and locking it instantly, putting on music so I couldn't hear her talking against my door telling me to open it.
Putting on my favorite song, I allowed the chorus to take over my being and let the words fill my head.
I walk down a lonely road, the only one that I have ever known. I don't know where it goes, but it's home to me and I walk along.
I turned up the volume more until it was blaring in my ears. The violin added to the piano. I started to feel tired yet didn't want to sleep, remembering that tomorrow I won't be in this room. I'll be in a different place.
The next morning,
My phone was completely dead. Not only did I fall asleep without charging it, but Mom woke me up and made me pack most of my clothes and some stuff to 'decorate' my room, so I grabbed my skateboard, along with a few of my rock band posters, and stashed my Azura books in a box so she wouldn't see them.
Finally, after about an hour, I headed downstairs with a duffle bag and some boxes in my hands. "Where do I put this?" I asked my arms shaking "There's a van outside that I rented so take them and put them in the back?" I scoffed "Wow totally not going to miss me any thanks ma," I said, walking past her and putting the stuff in the back.
Looking around I finally got the last box hearing whispers "is the freak finally moving?" I looked around hearing the voices of people "Oh shit check it out, the luzers finally taking a hike" I just ignored the comments feeling my chest become tight ignoring it as I shut the door.I got in the truck my mom setting the GPS to a place called Bonesborough.
