"the inheritance case,"

el set the large binder on mikes desk in his house office.

"the time i got sued." she whispered and sat down, "i'll sum it up for you but this is everything.."

he nodded. "take your time."

she nodded and exhaled. "after my dad died, he left everything to me. i mean, everything. the house we built when he first adopted me and the truck he had. all his money, my money. my money because i wasn't 18 and he was keeping it safe."

"his parents never excepted me when he adopted me. that led to a fallout between them but hop told me they all never got along that well anyways. he had a daughter and i guess that's why they couldn't accept me. fast forward to when they found out i got everything, they were really mad. said they were his parents and they earned it instead. so then they sued me and said i manipulated and forced my own father to give me everything which was why they had nothing."

"i lost my father, i had nothing. i couldn't go to college because i couldn't afford it and i was insanely depressed and you know, suicidal. i was at a bar one night, drinking away how i would pay these legal fees until i met mason. he convinced me to date him then he.. he made me trust him enough for him to pay for my fees. then one day, i was told i lost. and then i really lost everything forever. i couldn't go to school, i couldn't eat and i had no place to live so i moved into the old cabin hopper used to store his things."

"everything was shit for a while and mason made it a bit better until one day, he got super drunk and hurt me. that's not really the point here but that's why i stayed because i owned him so much."

"i tried to find jobs but without a degree, nothing and no one accepted me." she whispered then finally looked into his eyes.

"the deal was that if i hand everything over peacefully, they'll never step foot near his grave." she finally added and he nodded.

"el," he said gently, "you wouldn't have lost,"

"what?" her brows furrowed.

"he gave it to you. he wrote it down, didn't he?"

"yes he did."

"exactly. there was proof. concrete proof. how could you have lost?" he asked rhetorically, "el, there was foul play,"

"what?"

but he smiled and stood up to circle his desk and to hold her hand. "but don't worry, honey, i'll get everything back for you. don't worry about it,"

"i don't have money,"

"but i do.. and i'd love to use it to help you get what is yours back, honey," he smirked and kissed her lips. "now, i need to call lucas, why don't you go play with sailor?"

she nodded happily. "i'll like that. thank you, mike,"

he smiled softly. "you're welcome, love,"

"can't you catch a little break?" el asked and entered his office late at night, "i brought the dinner to you because you haven't rested and i don't want you to walk that far."

he smiled, motioning for her to come closer and she set the tray of food down on the table before sitting down on his lap sideways.

"i missed you." she murmured, "i only had sailor for the afternoon. what are you even working on?"

he leaned his forward to hers, "nothing much," he kissed her lips, "was sailor naughty?"

"nope! he is one good puppy. i don't know why you had to send him off," she frowned.
