"stop, i ate so much today already—" el protested and moved away from all the food mike had set on the table.

"you only had a breakfast this morning and a pasta at lunch. i want you healthy," he said then picked up some biscuits, "here eat these."

"but i'm full!"

"okay," he snapped it in half, "here, nibble at least."

"i take it back," she huffed, grabbing the biscuit, "i hate that you're here. go back to work."

he laughed, throwing his head back. "tough, i ain't leaving till you are."

"why not? you're missing meetings and work and loads of stuff,"

he shrugged. "i wanna take care of you," he said quietly before feeding her the biscuit since she wasn't eating it.

"you don't have to," she said softly but he just shrugged again. "i said i forgave you, you don't have to—"

"i know you did."

she furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "then why.. why do you wanna make it up to me?"

he looked into her eyes, "you think i'm just here because i wanna make it up to you?"

she nodded twice which made him hold back a grin at her expression. "why else would you be here?"

he groaned quietly, leaning his head down for a second before bringing it up to rub a hand across his face. "god el, you're so fucking oblivious sometimes."

"what?" she tilted her head.

"jesus, el," he slumped down in his chair as she moved forward. "what? what did i do?"

he shook his head, placing a hand on her head with a little thump. "nothing,"

"oh,"

he grinned. "you're cute when you're confused." he complimented which made her cheeks heat up.

oh my god, what was he saying? el thought. wait.

her eyes widened. was he flirting?

no, no, he wasn't.

"water?" he asked, changing the subject as he turned to the nightstand.

"sure, thank you," she whispered as he poured her a glass. "from now on, i need to watch what you eat." his jaw clenched at the thought of someone hurting her and poisoning her food.

"i'll be fine.."

"uh-huh," he replied sarcastically, "here," he handed her the glass as she moved forward to drink it.

"thank you," she smiled at him before moving back.

when he felt his phone buzz in his pocket, he took it out in an instant since he assumed it was lucas and to his surprise, it actually was.

lucas: i can't find anything. fuck. you sure el doesn't know?

"who is it?" el asked, seeing his angry expression.

"lucas," he gritted through his teeth.

"what's wrong with lucas?" she titled her head. he only ever got made at everyone else.

he glanced up then back down at his phone. "i'm trying to get him to find who the hell touched that water."

"the office water." it was more of a statement.

he nodded and looked up to see how uneasy she suddenly became.

"el?" he called out and she quickly hummed and looked up. "huh? yeah?"
