The bounty lifts up into the air as I watch as Leray race across the sand, then she shifts into a dragon. She takes to her wings and soars above the tare in the sand as she flames the smoky black hands. The hands reach through the flames up to Leray grasping her. She tries to escape but the hands just pull her into the blackness of the tare. “NO!” Lucy screamed running to the railing looking down to the desert.

The shadowy hands pull Leray in as the tare begins to close, she calls out, “FLY! FLY AWAY!” Then she disappears from sight as the tare closes.

“Leray…” Lucy whispers falling to her knees as tears slide down her cheeks.

I wrap my arms around her saying, “I’ve known Leray for some time now and I know that she won’t go down without a fight.” The little girl nods slowly.

“You’ve had a long night haven’t you?” My uncle asks her. Again she nods. And uncle asks her, “Would you like to sleep?”

She shakes her head, “Leray was taking me to the son of the Creator of Ninjago.”

“My uncle is the one you seek. But now you must sleep.” I tell her. Funny I rimed it.

“Can you carry me?” She asks.

I nod picking her up carefully. “Put her in Leray’s old room.” Uncle says, then I go down below deck.

I enter the room, it is very dusty and slightly feels forbidding. I turn and walk into Nya’s room. I hope she doesn’t get mad. I think laying Lucy in Nya’s bed.

I leave the room turning off the lights. “No.” She squeaks.

Stopping I turn and slowly make my way through the dark room to the bed. “What’s wrong?”

“I don’t want the darkness to eat me like it did to Leray.” She says her voice wobbling.

“Then I well stay with you.” I reply siting on the edge of the bed. I hear her move into a more comfortable position and she soon slips into sleep, her breathing slow. Quietly I leave the room.

In the hall Jay confronts me, “You gotta see this.” He says becoming me to follow him to the main deck. We climb the stairs and walk out onto the deck. Going over to the railing I peer down at the desert.

The sand is glowing red hot then it melts into liquid glass and starts to bubble. “Sensei?” Cole asks.

“I don’t know.” He says.

Then a shape bursts out of the glass and flies up to the bounty, it is a dragon. “MOVE!” I shout and we scatter. The dragon lands on the bounty ungracefully. It lays there then shrinks into a still shape. I rush forward and take her into my arms, “Leray? Leray?! Can you hear me?!”

She stirs and grumbles, “Yes. Fine. Now get off of me!” She pushes me away and gets to her feet. “And leave me alone!” She stomps away grumbling.

“Something isn’t right here.” Kai says.

“Give her time. We don’t know what happened when…” Uncle stops.

“The void. The shadow men took me into the void.” Leray says. “I just can’t believe I was able to escape. I must rest.”

She goes down below deck and uncle turns to us, “Now that we have seen what our enemy is capable of we must train.” We groan and begin to train.

Days go by with training, lots of training. And heart break. Nothing seems right, Lucy avoids Leray, and Leray avoids me. Whenever I try to talk to her she ignores me, when I am training she snaps remarks at me. She says, “Bad form.” or “Failure.” or “That was a stupid move.” Her remarks hurt. Most of all she has started to flirt with Kai and Cole.

I ask them why she might be doing this but they see different. I’ve given up now I just don’t want to deal with this pain anymore. She sees that I am hurt by her actions and I see laughter dance in her eyes at my heart break.

One day I run in to Lucy, she is sitting in a window reading a book. She looks up and smiles. Her smile looks like Leray’s before she was pulled into the void. “Hey Lucy.”

She closes her book tilting her head to the left, “What’s wrong?”

“Leray…” I trail off.

“No she is not Leray.” She says hotly. I give her a questioning look and she looks out the window saying softly, “The girl that was swallowed by the void is Leray. But the one who came out is not.”

I lean against a wall and sit on the floor resting my chin on one knee. “Dark magic is around us.”

“So you feel it to.” Lucy says and I can see light magic sparking around her.
