Angst warning
It was a day like any other...except that it wasn't. Things had been a bit...weird, maybe even unsettling, to say the least.
That was to say, Dazai and Kunikida had been together for awhile. Long enough for Kunikida to know that the way Dazai had been acting the entire day was definitely out of the ordinary.
It all started when Dazai (surprisingly) showed up to work, and he didn't greet Kunikida the way he normally did.
That's odd... Kunikida thought. He tried waving at Dazai.
Nothing came of it.
Something must be up...nah, I'm sure it's nothing and I'm just overthinking things, Kunikida thought. But deep down, he was worried that something might be up. Since when did Dazai act so...distant?
Kunikida was trying to convince himself that he wasn't at all bothered by...whatever this was. But alas, it was to no avail. He hated to admit it, but he was starting to feel really ignored. Maybe that was just because he was so used to Dazai never leaving him alone. Or maybe it was because despite how annoyed Dazai used to make him, Kunikida really did care about Dazai, and by extension, what Dazai thought about him. Or maybe it was something else entirely. Either way though, Kunikida was definitely not at all bothered.
Not the least bit.
...Except that he was.
Kunikida sighed. What to do, what to do? For some reason, the thought of what to do in a situation such as this one never occurred to him. Sure, he knew plenty of people would think of him as boring, but he never thought Dazai might think that. For as long as Dazai and Kunikida had known each other, it was incredibly rare that Dazai wasn't all over Kunikida, always trying to get his attention. And now that he wasn't, this felt really unnatural and almost worrying.
Part of Kunikida wanted to bring this up to Dazai, because it was too strange for him to just ignore. Seriously, since when did Dazai just completely ignore Kunikida's existence?
The other part of Kunikida argued that maybe Dazai was just having a bad day and wanted to be left alone. And if that were the case, Kunikida felt he owed it to Dazai. After all, Dazai was always considerate whenever it was Kunikida having a bad day. The other side of Kunikida insisted that this wasn't weird in any way and that he should just let things be and Dazai would come back to him all in good time.
Kunikida spent a good twenty-four minutes and thirty-five seconds arguing with himself about whether or not to approach Dazai and get to the bottom of this. He admitted that both sides had good points and drawbacks. It was so fun feeling conflicted.
Screw it, I'm just going to ask him, Kunikida finally decided. He walked over to Dazai and tapped his shoulder.
Dazai didn't pay any attention.
"Dazai?" Kunikida asked.
Dazai finally looked up with a blank expression.
"You've been ignoring me all day. Is something wrong?" Kunikida questioned.
"Oh, have I?" Dazai asked in a disinterested tone.
He didn't even notice... Kunikida thought. "...Never mind." He began to walk away.
Dazai shrugged and went back to drawing.
Kunikida stole another glance at Dazai as he walked back to his desk. This doesn't make any sense. Did I do something wrong...? He's so obviously ignoring me and yet he can't even seem to see it...
Meanwhile, Dazai was still just paying no attention to Kunikida. That guy's so boring. I can't believe I ever liked him. But how can I tell him that?

Kunikidazai Oneshots
FanfictionMuch as the title (and cover) would imply, this is going to be a book of oneshots dedicated to Dazai and Kunikida. It's my honest belief that this ship doesn't get enough attention and it's criminally underrated. So I've made the decision to give it...
