Kunikidazai Oneshots

A Day Off

(A/N: so I know I kinda sorta wrote two angsty oneshots back-to-back and I apologize for that. To make it up to you guys, I'm going to be writing a more fluffy oneshot. It's a request by Akria_shadow and it's where Dazai convinces Kunikida to take a day off at the hot springs with him. I feel like a lot can be done with this prompt. Without further ado, enjoy!)

It was one of those days where Kunikida was clearly extremely overworked and it was worse than usual. He was always at least somewhat overworked because he was a stubborn idealist who didn't know how to take breaks. But this time he was even more overworked than usual and he felt like he couldn't take any sort of break, no matter how small or short it may be. In other words, he felt like he was a machine running on its last leg but still trying to persevere despite less than good situations.

Dazai noticed it right away. Not that that took a lot, seeing as Kunikida was very easy to read. Dazai promptly decided that Kunikida could not go on like this. Not if he had anything to say about it. He marched up to Kunikida.

Kunikida looked up and saw Dazai.

Dazai got more worried upon looking at Kunikida. The man's eye bags looked a lot worse than usual. Kunikida looked as if he hadn't slept in at least a week. And knowing him, that was probably true. Despite having a strict sleep schedule, that was the one schedule Kunikida failed to follow more often than not. Usually because he got too caught up with work. "Kunikida."

"Yes?" Kunikida asked.

"First of all, you need to take a break from that paperwork. And second, I had a suggestion."

"What is it?"

"You and I should take a day off together."

Kunikida thought about it. That did sound nice, but... "I'm not sure I have the time for that."

"Kuuuunnnniiiiikkkkiiiiiiiiddaaaaaa."

"I know, I know. I do need to be better about taking days off, but it's not easy when there's always so much to do."

"Fair enough. Which is why you should procrastinate on it for once."

"Are you crazy?!"

"Yes. But that's besides the point."

Kunikida sighed. He knew all too well how persistent Dazai could get, and he all but knew he was going to lose this battle.

"Pllleeeeaaaaassssseeeeeeeeee, Kunikiiiiiiiiiddddaaaaaaa? It's only one day. Unless you decide to embrace the non-working lifestyle and decide you want to take more time off."

"I can't believe I'm saying this, but...fine."

"Really?!"

"I'm sure you heard me."

"Yaaaayyyyyy! You're the best!"

Kunikida sighed and smiled at the same time.

Dazai smiled back. "Now I need to make a plan for our day off."

Kunikida looked shocked. "Who are you and what have you done with Dazai?"

Dazai laughed. "It's not a Kunikida-ish plan or anything like that. I just have an idea."

"Oh, I see. Do I get to know what it is?"

"Not yet."

"Dazai."

"It's a surprise!"

"Alright, fine." Kunikida was definitely going to spend the rest of the day being curious now.
