(A/N: Merry Christmas! I had to do it, people. I had to write a Kunikidazai Christmas special, specifically their first Christmas together as a couple. It's like a rite of passage. Maybe. I don't know. All I know is I'm going to have fun writing this. It'll include everyone in the agency, but it'll also be just Dazai and Kunikida. Without further ado, enjoy!)

It was that time of year again. The time of year where the world as a whole felt a bit happier and the weather turned colder.

That was the case for most people at least.

Dazai hadn't really celebrated Christmas since the one time he spent it with Ango, Oda, and his kids. Once that door in his life had closed, he didn't see a point in celebrating again because he was alone.

But all that had changed this past year.

Dazai had started working at the agency two years ago after having spent a couple years laying low. He quickly found that his life was beginning to change for the better and he thought maybe, just maybe, it would be easier to keep the promise he had made to Oda.

While things undoubtedly improved for Dazai, he wasn't spared from his bad days. He still had plenty of them, but even those didn't feel as dark and hopeless as they once did.

And it was all thanks to the man that Dazai had found himself partnered with.

While Dazai and Kunikida hadn't exactly started out on the right foot, they worked well together right from the beginning. Despite their bickering, they always had each other's backs.

They had gradually grown closer over the years, going from strictly work partners to unlikely friends to eventual lovers. Becoming friends hadn't really shocked either of them, but confessing their love had come as more of a surprise (partially because both of them had originally thought their feelings were unrequited). Not that they were complaining. It was like they'd both found their missing piece and finally felt complete.

They'd been friends for about as long as Dazai had been part of the agency, but becoming boyfriends had only just happened this past year. Dazai and Kunikida were happy together and wouldn't change a single thing.

All this was to say that Dazai was beginning to feel differently about how he'd viewed Christmas. He felt a bit better about potentially celebrating it now that he wasn't alone anymore. He had people he could trust and lean on now. Atsushi, the one that he had saved but had also in a way saved him. Kenji, both a precious child that must be protected at all costs and a very capable colleague. Yosano and Kyouka, both good friends despite how often they teased him. Fukuzawa, a better father figure than Mori ever was. Junichiro and Naomi, who he wasn't super close with but still viewed as friends. Ranpo, the smart buddy that everyone could always count on for sound, honest advice. And last but not least, his amazing boyfriend Kunikida.

So when Fukuzawa had announced that there would be a Christmas party at the agency, Dazai actually found himself excited for it. He had asked Kunikida if he planned on staying, at least for a little bit.

Kunikida had never been much of a party person, mostly because he didn't like noisy crowds. Everyone at the agency knew this, so even on the rare occasion that Kunikida showed up for a party, he left early more often than not. This time though, Kunikida agreed. He couldn't in good conscience leave Dazai hanging.

The day of the party, everyone was either early or on time, for they were all very excited.

Naturally, Kunikida was the first one there. He took the time to begin to help set up the room.

Dazai was the next to arrive and when he noticed Kunikida setting up the room, he began to help.

Kunikida gave Dazai a shocked look. "It's not too often that you help me out with something, much less without being asked."
