Lycaon didn't interact with men way older than him so often. The solitary fame fighter, Phoenix, was incredibly nice. which is what made him feel so uneasy.
Dinner was eaten in silence. Something that he wasn't accustomed to. Everything Was well cooked in the flames and the spices were burning his mouth. He ended up drinking more than he ate. Phoenix tells him that the juice was created from a variety of unique fruit from the land of Rivers. He ask if he likes it.. Lycaon replied that he did. Pheonix kept asking more questions probably to avoid the silence. Well that's what Lycaon thinks. He did his best answering them all. It was better than hearing the sounds of people chewing mouths and spoons hitting their plates.
Have you ever tasted food from a fire mage?
He replies, "Once in a while."
As Lycaon struggles to maintain his cool and not guzzle down all the juice Phoenix laughs pouring more juice for him.
Lycaon decided to throw a question back. "How did you and my mom know each other?"
Phoenix pauses to reflect. "I know Raicho from the Sanctuary..when I was injured from a battle. She took care of me."
Looking at their father's smile from outside the battlefield made Helios and Kitsune uncomfortable. Despite how it appeared, it felt forced.
The following morning, Lycaon awoke to a scorched field and a fast supper. A true warrior learns from fight, say Phoenix. In the upcoming two days, that is what he'll be doing.
Phoenix pulled his sword out. "If you're going to undertake difficult missions against the Zodiacs, like my boys, you should first familiarize yourself with the guidelines for combat. Your intention, your driving force, and the steps you take.
Lycaon took his twin daggers out. "Does it matter ?"
Phoenix lunge his sword to the ground and stares down at him. Lycaon sighs. " I want to help my mom and my siblings. I always want to be as much help to everyone as I can. Especially on the battle field. "
Phoenix smiles. " Your mother use to send letters of how you were doing. Always her little helper and defender. A little dog assisted you everywhere. You took well to new siblings. Especially your foster sisters from the land of forests."
'You know a lot,' Lycaon look at him suspiciously. Phoenix brought up the subject of combat again. "This sparring match's objective is to grab this hanker chief away from my side.
You have until noon.
Lycaon rushes into his pouch as Phoenix raises his sword up and yells begin. Lycaon throws a set of daggers, striking and curving from all direction. Phoenix counter each one with precise turns and clashes of his sword. Lycaon made sure the last two daggers he threw was charged with lightning. When Phoenix counters it. He drops his sword from the quick shocks. Two more daggers were thrown above in a arching motion. Descending fast onto Phoenix. He jumps back to dodge the fatal strikes. Only to allow his hanker chief to be finally ceased from him.
Phoenix laughs. " I forgot you are a lightning mage. Quick, witty, and thinking on your toes."
Lycaon thanks him for his compliment. Phoenix asks,"you have a rival yet?Competition creates strength like fuel to the flames."
Lycaon shook his head." It's family, the fuel to my strength is family. I don't want to disappoint."
Phoenix smile slowly went away and took out a cigarette to smoke. " I've disappointed many people. At least I kept them safe. I guess that also helped fuel my flames."
Training ensues for the rest of the day. Till the sun went down with breaks of lunch and dinner.
Lycaon lay sore in the guest room. There was only a bed and shelves of grimoire that wrote about battle. He took some out. As he skim through some papers fell out. It seem to be tons of written letters. He noticed his mother hand writing. It wrote about him and his siblings. How much he was training to pass Huntiks exams. Talked about his raiju dog named Amari.

He remains sick from heat exhaustion during the summer. Which led him to a coma like state.
He looks through other letters some revealing the rising threat of the Zodiacs. Pheonix going in missions to investigate assassination, looting of trade routes, terroristic bombing threats. His mother seem to knew a lot about the Zodiacs. Weird as he never seen his mother as the political type. A letter fall and he picked it up. It had a photo attached to It. A photo of him and his mother. The writing on top.
"... Thank you for buying him a camera. He loves it, and haven't lift a finger off of it. He has grown a lot. He has gotten taller, darker complexion brown, and his face are far more sharper than mine. His hair has grown a silver white color to contrast his black roots. His hair has gotten more frizzy and thicker... I hope you do meet him one day. He has my level of calmness but can burst into a ball of fire when it counts.
Love, Raicho Shango"
Lycaon hears someone's foot steps get closer. He rushes everything back to their places. Trying not to crumble anything up or make any noises. He hears the person opening the door wide open. It was Phoenix.
He saw Lycaon read a random book on the bed, " tactics of battle and war".
Phoenix goes to take the books with the letters in it. He says to be ready for tomorrow that yesterday was the warm up. Phoenix gives a Longing look before he leaves and close the door. Lycaon takes a deep breathe. He took his foot off the letter he folded up to keep. " what are they hiding from me ? "
