The Trouble With The Truth

"I have plans with you later"

(Lauren is six months old now)

   "have you seen her blanket?" I called to Emily.

   "Yeah it was just here...found it!"

We were getting ready to go to Rossi's for dinner which is one of the first times we've really "gone out" since Lauren was born.

   "come see mommy" Emily smiled as she held her arms out towards her and Lauren leaned out of my arms.

   "can you get her in the car, I'm just gonna make sure we have everything" I smiled.

Once I had double checked that were good to go, we left for Rossis.

   "ahh there's my bell'angelo!" Rossi chimed as he took Lauren from me.

He gave Emily and I a brief nod and started talking to Lauren in Italian.

Emily kissed me in the doorway before heading inside.

   "I have plans with you later" she whispered in my ear as her hand rested on the small of my back.

   "oh yeah?" I smirked as my cheeks began to blush. Even now, she still gives me butterflies.

   "mhmm" she kissed my cheek before we entered the kitchen where everyone was gathered.

Rossi was of course making dinner while everyone else sat and visited.

   "I just want to eat her up" Blake chuckled as she held Lauren, whom was a big hit wherever we go.

   "she's just precious" Penelope said in a baby voice as she waved at her.

   "she is, even when she's crying at three am" I sighed.

   "It sounds like your mommy's need a break" Alex said while still looking at Lauren. "why don't let me watch her tonight?"

   "really?"

   "oh no"

Emily and I spoke at the same time and I shot her a look.

   "what? It would be nice to have a few uninterrupted hours, not that we don't love every one of them sweetheart" Emily looked at Lauren and smiled.

   "I don't know.." I said wearily. "that's a lot to put on you Alex"

   "really, I'd love to! My house is too quiet sometimes"

After what happened with JJ I've been having a hard time letting Lauren out of my sight, but I knew that I couldn't have her by me 24/7.

   "are you sure?" I asked again.

   "positive! I would love to have her!"

   "Ok" I smiled and shook my head in disbelief at myself that I was actually agreeing to this..

After we had dinner and cleaned up it was almost seven.

   "she should get to bed" Emily sighed.

   "Do you have the packn'play?" Alex asked.

   "yeah, I'll put it in your car" Emily stood and helped Alex while I gave our baby some love.

    "Is this your first night being home without her?" Derek smirked.

   "Yes" I said, starting to regret my decision. We had obviously had to be gone on cases but that was only twice, and my mom stayed with her while we were gone.

   "It'll be good for you two, and Alex will take great care of her, just go have fun with your wife" he winked at me before getting up and saying goodbye.
