two weeks later:

"if this headache doesn't go away soon I swear to god-" Morgan started.

"drink some damn coffee. You haven't had any all morning." I rolled my eyes.

"And when did you become a doctor?" he joked before standing up to go get a cup of coffee.

"ahh, taking my advice though," I laughed "so some part of you believes what I say."

He simply chuckled to himself as he walked away. Before returning to my computer I glanced over to Emily's office and noticed that her door was closed. She usually didn't close the door so I knew something was up. I stood from my desk and made my way up the stairs.

I gave a gentle knock before opening the door.

"Uh, I gotta go" Emily mumbled before hanging up.

"Hey" I smiled. "everything alright?"

"why wouldn't it be" she said plainly without looking up from the paper on her desk.

"I don't know I just noticed that your door was clo-" I started, taking a few steps towards her, before she cut me off.

"Is there something you needed Agent?" she snapped.

My eyes widened in shock at her tone.

"Agent?" I forced a chuckle. "Em, I'd say we're far past formal talk, don't you think?"

"I have a job to do and you do too, so either address the reason you came in here, or stop getting distracted and get to work!" her voice was cold and harsh.

"I-I just wanted to make sure you were ok and obviously you're not" my eyes softened in hopes to calm her down.

"I don't need you telling me if I'm ok or not. Jesus, can't you mind your own business?"

My stomach sunk right to rock bottom, my heart following shortly after as her piercing words sunk in.

"I thought there was no longer, you or me. Only us" I said with a shaky voice.

"Well, things change." she mumbled and even she paused and drew in a deep breath.

"things change?" I repeated. "what changed? Did you fall out of love with me in the last six hours?" I scoffed. Emily stayed quiet. "Emily!" I barked growing angry and concerned at the same time.

"I can't do this right now." she huffed.

I stood there dumbfounded. My eyes grew bloodshot as I fought back tears.

"You didn't have to say it back." I whispered before leaving the room.

"what?" she asked.

"I didn't tell you I loved you to hear it back. I told you to make sure you knew." I choked out. "I wasn't looking for you to lie to me Emily."

And with that I left her office, holding back the flood of tears in my eyes. I grabbed my coat and brief case. I couldn't say a word to anyone or I knew I would break down, so I got out of there as fast as I could. The cold wind blew right through the hole where my heart used to be as I got in my car and headed for the liquor store. I couldn't decide if I wanted a sauvignon blanc or fireball so I got both. Or what I liked to call a recipe for disaster. I arrived home and immediately opened the fireball, taking a large swig. And another. And another. I knew this wasn't the number one recommended coping mechanism but it sure was the fastest at numbing the pain. I sat on the couch, a small whiskey glass and the bottle in hand, and waited for her to come home.

The following morning:

My head spun like a damn tilta-whirl as I opened my eyes. A 3/4 empty fireball bottle on the coffee table and no sign of Emily. I got up and scrunched my eyes closed before making my way to the bedroom. Our bed was the same as it was yesterday, clearly nobody slept in it. I found my phone to see a text from Emily.

Staying at the office tonight. We'll talk tomorrow.

Is she fucking serious? I said out loud. All I get is a text? I was furious. Already, I knew this day was going to either be worse or just as bad as the day before. I quickly showered and got dressed before taking off to work. I was one of the first ones there as I entered and placed my stuff at my desk.

"Emily," I walked into her office and she stood at her desk.

"hey" she said quietly.

"We need to talk." I sighed and she nodded.

"Can you give me five minutes? I am waiting on a call from Strauss and it should be coming in any minute."

Frustratedly I agreed and decided to use the bathroom while I was waiting. As I opened the door I found JJ brushing her teeth.

"JJ?" I asked.

"Oh, hi" she seemed almost startled.

"Why are you brushing your teeth in here?" I gave a light chuckle. But as I looked closer, I realized she was wearing the exact same thing she wore yesterday.

"didn't you wear that yesterday?" I questioned pointing at her blouse.

"Mm I don't know, I might have. I've been so preoccupied lately I guess I must have just thrown on the first I saw this morning" she gave a weak smile, refusing to look me in the eyes. "I'll see you later."

I stood there trying to understand what the hell just happened, so I called the only person I know who stays as late, if not later, than Emily. Penelope.

"Hey Garcia, who was all here when you left last night?" I asked as I leaned against the sink. "Oh. um, ok. thank you, that's uh, that's all I needed to know. See you soon." I hung up and swung the door open. I marched into Emilys office, guns blazing.

"Is there anything you'd like to tell me?" I snapped.

"what?" she looked at me concerned.

"I don't have the energy to play games with you Emily, so I will ask one more time is there anything, you want to tell me?"
