"Seriously?" She asked when Gunner walked in with a grin on his face.
"Da," he nodded as he sat on the stool next to her. "I protect Kitten creeps."
"I'm fine, Gunner," She shook her head, "go back to your bar."
"Nyet," He shook his head. "You hurt, I protect."
"I'm fine, Gunner," She sighed in irritation, "Go away, shoo!"
"Nyet," He smirked as she walked around him in annoyance. "See Doc, he say you fine, I stay work. He say you hurt, I protect."
She sighed and decided to just ignore him the rest of the day since she knew how stubborn he was. She was grateful he remained out of her way while she worked and once the shop was closed she pointed to the door. "I'm done, I'm going home, go back to your family Gunner."
"I take home," he shook his head. "Make sure safe."
"No," She shook her head, "I refuse, I'm a grown adult, I'm fine. Go Gunner."
He sighed and gripped her chin, "Text get home. Immediately."
"Fine," She sighed and pulled her chin out of his grip. "Thank you for protecting me against the invisible boogeymen." He growled then shook his head as he left.
She finished locking up the store and purposely ignored the bikers watching her as she got in her car and drove off to her apartment. She froze when she saw the vase of carnations, dahlias, and red tulips in front of her door. She hurried inside and locked the door.
Sliding to the floor she pulled out her phone and sent a text to the group chat she had. I'm home safe and sound.
Good the reply came back instantly. Call or text if you need anything at all at any time.
She sent the thumbs up emoji then sat the phone down. She knew she was a fool for not telling them who that man was, but she wasn't ready to lose them. Sure, they weren't close friends, but they were friends, and she took comfort in seeing them every day. She slowly got up, grabbed the knife out of her knife block and headed up to her room. Checking that her windows were locked she got in bed and tried to get some sleep even though she knew it was going to be a long night.
She woke up gasping as she looked around the darkness. Once she got her breathing under control she grabbed her phone.
"What's wrong, Angelos Mou?" Shark's voice came through the phone. "Everything okay?"
"No," She whimpered then sighed, "yes, sorry for bothering you, Shark." There was a moan of agony in the background and she frowned, "What was that? Who's hurt?"
He glared then cleared his throat, "It's nothing to worry your pretty little head about Angelos Mou, Ninja just fell out of the tree being stupid and hurt himself."
"He needs to work on his ninja skills once he's better," She giggled softly. "And he needs to be careful."
"I'll tell him you said that," He spoke softly. "What's bothering you? Talk to me."
"I just had a bad dream, that's all," She spoke softly as she laid back down. "I'm sorry for bothering you."
"It's not a bother at all Angelos Mou," He spoke as another moan was heard in the distance along with what sounded like flesh hitting flesh.
"What was that?" She asked curiously.
"Grumpy hit Ninja for being a wuss," He said chuckling.
"Tell him to be nice to his brother, he's hurt," She pouted.
"Yes Ma'am," He chuckled, "Grumpy, Angelos Mou said to stop hitting Ninja, he's hurt and you're suppose to be nice to your brother."
"Ugh fine," Grumpy said in annoyance.
"Want me to swing by, Angelos Mou?" Shark asked softly. "I'll keep the bad dreams away."
"No," She shook her head, "I'm better now," She yawned, "I'm going to try and –"
Loud banging interrupted her and she gasped. "What is that, Angelos Mou?" Shark asked catching the attention of the others. "Angelos Mou?"
"I...I...I don't know," She whispered as she got out of bed. "Maybe it's the neighbors, they've been fighting a lot lately." The pounding got louder and she realized someone was banging on her front door.
"Send me your address now Angelos Mou," Shark demanded as she peeked through the peephole.
Ice filled her veins as her door shook, "It's the neighbors, they are fighting again," She whispered and gulped. "I'm going to call the manager to complain then put some headphones on to try and tune them out and get some sleep."
"Give me your address now Angelos Mou," Shark demanded. "I can tell that's not your neighbors. Either you give it to me or –"
She hung up on him and slowly stepped back towards her room. Her phone lit up and she quickly glanced at it Send address now or Hacker will get it.
