your parents were out of town for the week and eddie, your boyfriend of a year, had made it his mission to stay with you and 'protect' you. he decided he wasn't comfortable leaving you in the house all alone. to be honest, you didn't mind at all. you didn't mind the home cooked dinners, or the movie nights, or falling asleep and waking up with him next to you. in fact, you were starting to get used to it. maybe too used to it.

you started thinking about the future. this wasn't new though. you always thought about your future. but recently you'd thought about a future with eddie. with your own house, your own bed, and your own life. you didn't know if he'd ever thought about it like that. i mean, it sure seemed like he was loving the amount of time he got with you now. but maybe bringing it up wouldn't hurt.

you and eddie were laying on the couch in your living room watching Stand By Me. it was probably the movie the two of you watched the most together. as the movie came to an end and the credits began to roll, you thought now was as good a time as ever.

"hey, ed?" you said, moving from your once comfortable position to face him.

"yeah sweetheart?" he uttered quitely, as the two of you were increasingly tired. you smiled at the nickname. he'd barely called you anything else for months.

"are you enjoying this as much as i am?" you questioned. it was a little more straightforward than you were planning to be, but you were craving his reassurance.

"what do you mean?" he said, furrowing his eyebrows in curiosity, moving a piece of hair from your face and tucking it behind your ear.

"i mean, we've basically lived together for the past week. do you enjoy spending all this time together?" it sounded like a silly question once you said it out loud, but you didn't have a better way to phrase it.

"darling, if i had it my way, we would have moved in together already. there is quite literally no one else i would rather spend my time with." he reassured you, smiling. that goddamn smile.

"i wish it could be like this. i hate that my parents come back tomorrow. maybe i should tell them to extend their trip." you said jokingly.

"i'd love nothing more." you smiled at his response. he leaned in and pecked you on the lips before picking you up bridal style and carrying you to your bedroom so the two of you could get some much needed sleep. you'd never felt so loved by one human being.

when you first met eddie, you never even fathomed the way he would soon become so utterly in love with you. but it seemed like everyone else did. steve telling you countless times that the 'guy with the curly long hair' was starring at you again. or dustin telling you about a remark eddie had made about you that day. once you finally gave in and allowed yourself to see his behavior, you began the best year of your life.
