the sound of beeping and slight humming were the first thing to hit you as you shifted in your hospital bed. your eyes fluttered open and you looked down at yourself clad in a hospital gown, blankets lazily thrown over you. you furrowed your eyebrows for a moment, recalling the events that took place at eddie's trailer earlier that day.

you turned your head to see eddie, sitting leaned-back in a chair next to your bed, reading an old looking book, brows snapped together in concentration. you exhaled slightly at the sight, smiling as best you could. you were weak and tired from the medication and IV but, otherwise, you felt good.

eddie's eyes shot up to meet yours when he heard the slight release of breath you let out. a smoky quickly green on his face as he set his book down and stood up to walk over to you.

"hey there. you gave me quite a scare." he smiled, leaning down to peck you on the lips. you only smiled back, not sure what to say. it was your fault, and you felt terrible that eddie had now focused his attention on you instead of himself.

"how long have i been here?" you asked, voice coming out a little hoarse as your throat was dry from lack of, well, anything.

"not that long. i brought you here, they took you back and stitched you up, put you on some meds, and you've been out for a few hours." he explained. you pursed your lips together and tried to get more comfortable, but pain shot through your body.

"fuck."

"woah, woah, woah. careful. fresh stitches." eddie reminded you, helping you adjust to sit up a little more than you had been.

"have you been here the whole time?" you questioned him as he returned to his seat, scooting it closer to you, leaning on the edge of your bed next to your hip.

"of course. where else would i be?" he answered, as if it was so obvious. you smiled and put your hand over his, gripping firmly. he smiled and returned the gesture.

the sound of footsteps entering the room caused the two of you to shift your gaze to the doorway, where it seemed like one of your nurses was entering.

"ah, i see we've finally woken up! i'll let doctor wallace know." the woman declared with a rather perky tone before disappearing out the door again.

"hey," eddie started, once the nurse was far enough away, "don't you ever even think about hiding shit like this from me again, okay?" he said softly, but the look in his eyes told you he was being dead serious.

"i won't, i just didn't want you to take time away from your healing to focus on mine. let's face it, we both know that's exactly what you would've done." you reasoned with the boy.

"y/n, you're always going to be my number one priority, that's not changing." he assured you, you rolled your eyes playfully as he planted a chaste kiss on your hand.

the doctor came in and explained everything to the two of you, including the fact that you would need to stay under observation at the hospital for another few days, which did not sound pleasant to you, but after that you were free to go. eddie insisted that he would stay here with you until you were released, ignoring your countless protests that he needed to go home and get some rest and he could come back in the morning.

he really wasn't lying when he said you were his number one priority.
