assumptions

you and eddie had been friends for around a year now.

by friends, you mean he was your dealer and occasional fuck buddy every once in a while.

it all started when your previous dealer graduated and actually went off to college somewhere.

shocking.

but you knew you didn't have to worry about that with eddie. you'd met him in the woods behind school and even gone to his trailer a few times when you needed something a little stronger.

the first time you two hooked up, you'd offered to stay and smoke with him at his trailer. you'd actually grown to enjoy his company. platonically, that is.

or so you thought.

you'd ended up getting higher than you planned and opened up conversations about your love life that you definitely wouldn't have had sober. about how you'd never found the right guy, and every guy was an asshole, and so on. that night he promised to show you the best night of your life, and let's just say he kept that promise.

after that it was kind of a theme. you had no idea if he was doing this with any of his other customers, but you didn't really care.

until you did. you'd started developing feelings for the boy after the first few times. his attitude, his smile, his voice. everything started to give you butterflies. you found yourself becoming jealous when max mayfeild, eddie's neighbor and the only other person who knew about your growing feelings for eddie, would tell you he had another girl over to his trailer to pick up her purchases. you didn't know if they were doing what you two were doing, but it still made you uneasy.

one night, you decided you were done with the games. you were only hurting yourself, digging this hole deeper and deeper. you didn't know if the boy had any feelings towards you or if it was just a way for him to get laid. tonight, you just wanted to pick up your stuff and move on.

you pulled up to his trailer in your car, parking next to his, and making your way to the door. you knocked your signature pattern to let eddie know it was you. he wasted no time swinging the door open and leaning on the door frame.

"hey." he greeted with a smirk, looking you up and down, taking in what you were wearing.

"hi." you responded, pursing your lips together. eddie moved out of the way, clearing a path for you to enter his home. you walked in and stood awkwardly in the middle of his living room. eddie noticed and furrowed his eyebrows at you.

"sit down, make yourself comfortable princess. no rush." he said, searching his drawers for the substance you were craving. you sighed and ignored his remark, beginning to slowly pace the room, eager to leave before you could even make eye contact with him, knowing it would pull you in.

"ah, here she is," he smiled proudly, pulling out a plastic bag full of the pot you had purchased. he made his way over to you, noticing your uncomfortable demeanor.

"you okay?" he asked, furrowing his eyebrows again, leaning down a little to look at your face as he was taller than you.

"um, yeah, i just wanted to get my stuff and go this time." you answered, crossing your arms anxiously, only being able to look up at him for a split second. he had a way of saying things with his eyes rather than his mouth.

"what's the rush? i thought you'd want to stay and have a smoke with me." he questioned, genuinely confused. you finally found the confidence to look him in the eyes.

"i just can't keep doing this, eddie." you stated, hoping he would understand.

"what? look, you don't have to buy it if you don't want to-"

"no, not that," you cut him off, "i can't keep coming over and pretending i'm here for drugs and sex." you said in a matter-of-fact tone. you thought you'd finally gotten your point across as the boys shoulders relaxed and he tilted his head.

"pretending?" he said, more confused than before.

"i like you, eddie. i can't keep doing this knowing i'm just another one of your customers that you can get laid by." you said, uncrossing your arms.

"no, no, that's not what you are at all i-"

"you don't have to bullshit me tonight, ed. just let me take my shit and leave." you sighed, reaching a hand out.

"y/n, it's not like this with the others. your the only one i've ever even slept with." eddie said, slowly shaking his head, relaxing his eyebrows.

"even if that's true, it doesn't matter. if you don't have feelings for me, just tell me now and i'll walk out that door and never come back. i'm a human too, you know. you can't just mess with peoples feelings like that." you said, taking the weed you'd payed for out of his hand, waiting for a response, but all you got was silence.

"okay, we'll then ill see myself out, have a nice life eddie-" you'd turned to walk out the door, only making it a couple steps away before eddie grabbed your arm and turned you back around crashing his lips onto yours.

but this time it was different. this kiss wasn't full of impatience or urge. it was slow and passionate and gentle. it was a different side of the boy that you'd never seen.

you broke the kiss after a minute, stumbling back a little bit. his eyes scanned your face. he didn't sense anger, he only sensed relief and a bit of confusion.

"i do have feelings for you, y/n." he clarified, watching your face soften.

"why didn't you tell me?" you breathed out, still processing what had just happened.

"i was scared. scared that you were just in it for the sex. i mean, c'mon, every guy in hawkins wants you, why would i be special?" he said, looking down at you with a caring look. you smiled, looking down at the ground for a moment.

"so chrissy, linda, carrie, nothing ever happened with them?" you asked, looking up, just to be sure.

"hell no. they came in, got there shit and left. i never even thought of doing that with them. they weren't you." he placed his hands on your waist, pulling you closer. your hands found his neck as you brought him down for another kiss.

he leaned back, wanting to get in one final thing before the two of you carried on your night.

"let me take you out, y'know, on a real date."

"i'd like that." you smiled back at him. he closed the gap between you a final time and the rest was history.

all your assumptions were wrong. he didn't sleep around with every girl who bought drugs from him. he wasn't playing games with you. in fact, he didn't want anyone else but you.

and you found comfort in that. knowing that all your assumptions were just that.

just assumptions.
